Role Summary:
JBS Prepared Foods in Council Bluffs, IA is seeking a 1st shift Quality Assurance Supervisor (approx. 5am - 3pm). The Quality Assurance Supervisor ensures all products and processes meet established quality standards, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations. This role leads a team of Food Safety & Quality Assurance (FSQA) professionals, drives continuous improvement, and collaborates across departments to maintain operational excellence. The ideal candidate is well-organized, detail-oriented, and is able to manage multiple priorities and dynamic deadlines with efficient time management and clear communication. This person will lead the team in promoting and cultivating a strong food safety/quality culture in the plant. This role offers excellent growth potential!
Responsibilities:
- Food Safety & Quality Control
- Conduct and oversee testing of raw materials, in-process items, and finished products on the plant floor.
- Adapt and utilize inspection equipment to meet quality standards; recommend improvements to procedures and tools.
- Verify production and sell-by dates, sanitation, and cleanliness of equipment and facilities.
- Establish and monitor shelf-life requirements, product specifications, and critical control parameters (weights, temperatures, leak testing).
- Implement and monitor compliance to HACCP plan for all products.
- Leadership & Team Management
- Direct and supervise FSQA staff; plan and assign work to ensure timely completion.
- Maintain discipline, morale, and positive team relations; resolve personnel issues and recommend hiring, promotions, and terminations.
- Model a growth mindset, motivate team members to achieve performance goals, and foster a culture of quality.
- Collaboration & Communication
- Partner with production supervisors and other departments to coordinate activities and implement cross-training programs.
- Serve as primary liaison with USDA inspectors regarding product quality, safety, and compliance.
- Documentation & Reporting
- Compile and maintain inspection records, quality control reports, and production documentation.
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of all required paperwork.
- Safety & Continuous Improvement
- Monitor adherence to safety protocols and sanitation practices. Accurately report any unsafe acts to prevent workplace safety incidents.
- Investigate root causes of defects and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Other Duties
- Perform additional quality-related responsibilities as assigned.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
- Production setting includes exposure to various chemicals and machinery, wet/slippery floors, extreme temperatures and loud noises.
- Must be able to frequently and regularly use wrists, hands, and or fingers. Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with a partner throughout the day.
- Average, ordinary visual acuity is necessary to prepare or inspect documents, products, or operate machinery.
- Must be able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information, sometimes with loud background noise.
Qualifications:

- High School Diploma or equivalent certification.
- Minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience.
- At least 3-5 years' experience in quality control in a manufacturing environment. Experience in food manufacturing QA preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully in English, both written and verbally. Bilingual skills (Spanish) helpful.
- Shows compassion towards and has an interest in others. Demonstrates integrity and fairness, with excellent conflict resolution skills.
- Capable of quick and independent decision making, with effective problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to new and changing situations.
- HACCP certification required within 90 days of employment.
- Computer skills to include Microsoft Office Suite Programs (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Dependable, with good attendance and safety records.
- Able to work assigned hours/days, including occasional weekends as required
