            JOB DESCRIPTION INFORMATION
             
            Position Title: Associate Food Scientist
            Position Type: Full Time

            Business Unit: JBS Prepared Foods
            Reports To: Research and Development 
             
            This position supports the JBS Prepared Foods team in creating and improving products, collecting product data and delivering sales samples for our Italian Meats business. The ideal candidate will be excellent at following verbal and written instructions, be detail oriented, be curious, and have a passion for all things meat and food related.
            ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
            • Operate in a USDA inspected facility following all the rules and regulations associated with this requirement. 
            • Follow written and verbal instructions to prepare formulations for sample production of fermented/ dried/ aged meats, and other items 
            • Setup, operate and breakdown pilot scale meat processing equipment for the purpose of making samples, equipment clean-up and completing equipment maintenance. 
            • Manage ongoing sample product inventory for shelf-life evaluations, data collection, and sample submission
            • Manage and communicate regular/daily shipping and receiving of high value sample products to and from customers.
            • Collect data on raw materials and finished products to be reported back to the project manager, including weekly internal product reviews.
            • Maintaining pilot equipment, ingredient storage, and sample testing inventory in a clean and organized state.
            • Maintain a safety-first environment and complete all required training 
            • Organize, prepare and clean show kitchen as needed for visitor use.
            • Other duties as assigned. 
             
             

             

             
            KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
            • Prior experience in a professional kitchen/ culinary environment, food processing, and/or laboratory. 
            • Prior food safety experience preferred, with involvement in a USDA or FDA facility, local health department or through other training. 
            • Basic office experience preferred. 
            • Must be able to work in a team environment. 
            • High work ethic, dependable, and able to work without close supervision. 
            • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
            • Comfort responding to changing priorities and short notice requests
            • Effective communication skills, both oral and written 
            • Computer skills required; mechanical skills preferred 
            • BS in Food Science or like field preferred
             
            WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
            • Must be able to handle physical activity and repetitive motions, including; lifting 50 pounds, working in a standing position for extended periods of time (4-6) hrs.
            • Must be able to work in a refrigerated environment (10F – 40F) for extended periods of time
