General Summary
The Onboarding Specialist supports Human Resources and Production by delivering a high‑quality onboarding and training experience for all new hires. This role spends approximately 90% of the time on the production floor, providing hands‑on guidance, machine‑operation support, and acclimation assistance during the first 60 days of employment. The specialist ensures training programs run smoothly, tracks progress, and promotes a safe, positive, and productive start for every new team member.
This position works directly in the plant environment and reports jointly to Onboarding and Production Management.
Key Responsibilities 
  • Administer, track, and evaluate all new‑hire onboarding and training activities in alignment with the People Pillar and MTP Complex Onboarding Program.
  • Supervise new hires during their training period and provide recommendations to HR and management regarding training needs, performance concerns, and continued employment.
  • Spend the majority of time on the production floor supporting new hires as they learn job duties, equipment, and safety procedures.
  • Build strong, positive working relationships with new hires, trainers, supervisors, HR partners, and production leadership.
  • Meet regularly with trainers, supervisors, HR, and Benefits to review training materials, processes, and progress.
  • Organize and maintain training spaces, equipment, and materials.
  • Participate in HR and company committees as assigned.
  • Assist HR with annual training requirements for all employees.
  • Learn and support machine‑operation processes to effectively guide new hires.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Physical & Work Environment Requirements
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working in a plant/industrial environment, including exposure to varying temperatures, noise, and production equipment.
  • Must be able to safely navigate the production floor and demonstrate proper equipment use.

 

Skills & Experience
  • Previous training or onboarding experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
  • Professional communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and confidently.
  • Ability to foster teamwork and build rapport with diverse groups of employees.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to work in a fast‑paced, hands‑on production environment.
  • Knowledge of machine operation or willingness to learn.

 

Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree or two years of coursework in Communications, HR, or a related field preferred (not required).
  • Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
