Technical Service Director

 

 Purpose and Scope/General Summary: Seeking a Director of Food Safety and Quality Assurance to provide company-wide leadership and direction for quality assurance/quality control and food safety functions. The Director interfaces, directs, advises, and supports operations at all production and warehouse facilities with any quality, regulatory, and food safety practices. In this role, you will manage and advise regulatory staff with any labeling or regulatory issues. You will also support and represent the company with government agencies, vendors, customers, and co-packers. Additionally, you’ll direct Customer Service/Sales and advise Consumer Affairs on complaints or technical questions.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Direct FSQA management and ensure continuous professional development, training, and overall employee well-being at all processing facilities
  • Strong leadership and management skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Provide scientific expertise and serve as a subject matter expert for programs and activities related to food safety/microbiology, regulations, and quality systems
  • Provide technical oversight and guidance for quality related functions
  • Provide strategic leadership, guidance, and risk management for corporate food safety and quality programs and systems including, but not limited to HACCP, Preventative Controls, GFSI related programs and customer or 3rd party audit-driven requirements and policies
  • Oversee all plant HACCP, pre-requisite quality programs, and all quality/food safety related programs to meet regulatory and/or customer requirements
  • Assure sampling for raw, WIP and finished product in compliance with label and specification declarations
  • Oversee plant sanitation programs, pre-operational, and operational programs to ensure sanitary standard operating procedures (SSOPs) and regulatory requirements for food manufacturing
  • Provide technical support to plant technical services/ FSQA teams, corporate senior management, Sales and Production Management.
  • Provide corporate oversight to ensure regulatory compliance for: labeling, product specifications, government and customer relations 
  • Maintain shelf life requirements and other microbiology and monitoring programs to show continuous improvement
  • Support Continuous Improvement with standardized work, science based problem solving and utilizing real time tools to predict quality attributes. Implement SPC, control charts, visual management, and other lean manufacturing tools
  • Champion quality and food safety initiatives to create a Food Safety culture and mindset
  • Advance paperless recordkeeping by strengthening Safety Chain usage and improving tracking and trending processes.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle/feel items, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and talk or hear.
  • Office and plant setting: the plant environment will include wet or humid conditions (non-weather related), extreme cold (non-weather related), and working near moving mechanical parts
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud when in the production area.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a strong track record of leadership in Food Safety, Quality Assurance, and Sanitation programs
  • HACCP Certified with a comprehensive knowledge of Microbiology
  • Complete knowledge and experience developing and managing HACCP, Preventative Controls, GMP, SSOP, SQF and/or other BRC and customer-driven quality and food safety requirements and programs
  • Comprehensive knowledge of statistical process controls. Ability to drive continuous improvement with Quality Programs
  • Excellent team building, oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated success managing and/or supervising multi-disciplinary teams and programs
  • Must be a professional, customer driven manager of producing high quality food products while achieving company objectives
  • Comprehensive knowledge of USDA-FSIS regulations and requirements for meat and poultry processing
  • Can perform the functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation
  • Must be willing to travel as needed to support business needs; up to 50%
  • Experience with Safety Chain preferred

 

The applicant who fills this position will be eligible for the following compensation and benefits:
 

  • Benefits: Vision, Medical, and Dental coverage begin after 60 days of employment;

  • Base salary range of [$108,714-$132,086]
  • Incentive Pay: This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s annual bonus plan, the amount of bonus varies and is subject to the standard terms and conditions of the incentive program;
