POSITION SUMMARY:  The Hatchery Chick Driver is responsible for loading and delivering chicks from the hatchery to the broiler facilities as well as occasionally loading and transporting eggs from the breeder facilities to the hatchery.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Drives truck to pick up chicks in a safe and economical manner assuring that the chicks are handled in a manner to chilling or overheating.. 
  2. Loads and unloads truck according to division guidelines as well as supervise the placing of chicks in barn..
  3. Groups chicks by breed, breeder flocks and breeder flock age so that best possible uniformity results..
  4. Conducts pre-trip/post-trip inspection in accordance with division guidelines and D.O.T. requirements.
  5. Maintain accurate chick delivery records to ensure quality standards are met.
  6. Does other related Hatchery work as assigned.

 

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS and BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Observe & enforce all company personnel, quality, safety, and food safety policies.
  • Maintains a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you work effectively and cooperatively with customers, clients, coworkers, and leadership teams.
  • Participates in process improvement and problem solving utilizing continuous improvement and rational thinking methodologies such as Six Sigma
  • Recognizes and acts on incidents and safety risks.  Consistently practices, and enforces safe work habits and drives those habits throughout the organization

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  •   Working knowledge of driving and traffic rules.
  •   Working skill to drive a truck safely and with a conscious effort to transport fragile loads.
  •   Ability to lift egg cases weighing up to 60 pounds
  •   Class A license required
  •   Minimum of one year driving experience with a manual transmission
  •   Good driving record.
