Shipping Supervisor – Frozen Food Distribution
The Shipping Supervisor for Frozen Food Distribution is responsible for leading daily outbound operations within a temperature-controlled warehouse. This role ensures accurate picking, staging, trailer loading, documentation, and on time departure of all shipments while maintaining strict adherence to cold chain, food safety, and regulatory requirements. The Shipping Supervisor drives productivity, ensures team development, and partners cross functionally to deliver high service levels and operational excellence.
Essential Tasks and Responsibilities
1. Outbound Operations Leadership
· Oversee daily shipping activities including order release, picking, staging, trailer loading, and documentation.
· Ensure accurate execution of FEFO rotation and outbound temperature requirements.
· Maintain shipping schedules and ensure timely truck departures in alignment with transportation plans.
· Validate load diagrams, pallet configuration, and securement for safe transport.
2. Labor Management & Staff Development
· Supervise, coach, and develop shipping associates, leads, and forklift operators.
· Manage labor allocation based on order volume and workflow priorities.
· Support performance management, training, and the development of high performing teams.
3. Compliance, Safety & Cold Chain Integrity
· Ensure compliance with OSHA, food safety, and cold chain guidelines for frozen product handling.
· Conduct safety audits, lead incident investigations, and support corrective actions.
· Monitor dock temperatures, freezer performance, and trailer pre-cool checks.
4. Accuracy, Quality & Documentation
· Ensure outbound order accuracy including pallet counts, labels, and BOL documentation.
· Validate that all outbound loads meet quality and regulatory requirements.
· Partner with quality assurance to address damages, mis picks, or product concerns.
5. Cross Functional Collaboration
· Coordinate with transportation for appointment times, carrier arrivals, and trailer availability.
· Partner with inventory control to resolve discrepancies and improve accuracy.
· Communicate status updates to leadership and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
· 3+ years of experience in warehouse or distribution operations; frozen food experience preferred.
· Strong understanding of cold chain management and food safety requirements.
· Experience supervising hourly warehouse staff.
· Proficiency with WMS systems and productivity reporting tools.
· Strong communication, leadership, and decision-making skills.
