Position Title: 2nd Shift Mechanic Lead
Wage Range: $30 Hour/ DOE Differential: $1.00
Status: Full-Time 1:30pm-11pm
Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor
This position has direct responsibility for ensuring that all work activities under its span of control are performed to the highest standards of food quality (HACCP, SQF), safe processes, full compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements, and a relentless focus on continuous process improvement.
PRINCIPAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Monitor all production areas to ensure the proper functioning of equipment and machinery; respond immediately to any issues to keep lines running.
- Supervise and lead a shift of mechanics to meet planned objectives, respond effectively to emergencies, and oversee the mechanical work of equipment.
- Assess technical and troubleshooting skills of mechanics; provide targeted training, coaching, and counseling to help team members meet or exceed performance standards.
- Assign work and tasks to maintenance employees; prepare materials and tools for the day’s activities.
- Complete assigned work orders and ensure all maintenance activities—including work orders, pass-downs, PM executions, repairs, adjustments, and equipment history—are documented completely and timely in the CMMS system (SAP).
- Instruct production personnel on the proper operation and care of equipment.
Ensure the preventive maintenance program is executed on schedule and in full compliance with company standards. - Adjust, repair, and replace electrical and electronic equipment as needed.
- Conduct pre-operational inspections and proactively address maintenance concerns raised by Production Supervisors to ensure production begins as scheduled.
- Responsible for correcting or facilitating corrective measures when downtime results from mechanical defects.
- Promote and encourage safety in all aspects of maintenance; strictly adhere to all Safety Procedures, including (but not limited to) Lock-Out/Tag-Out, Powered Industrial Truck operation, and other required protections.
- Ensure full compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and all collective bargaining agreements to maintain positive employee relations.
- Train employees in proper work techniques, sustainability practices, and safety protocols.
- Monitor employee relations; address performance or disciplinary issues promptly and escalate to the Manager/Supervisor as required.
- Perform hands-on maintenance tasks at all levels as needed to support the department and production.
- Support JBS sustainability initiatives by actively promoting conservation, energy efficiency, and recycling programs.
- Complete required paperwork and maintain current, accurate records of all activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of JBS MANTECA
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of one (1) year of maintenance experience in a high-speed processing facility required; food-manufacturing environment strongly preferred.
- More than two (2) years of experience as a group leader, lead mechanic, or in a similar supervisory capacity strongly preferred.
- Meat processing knowledge and experience preferred.
- Solid understanding of meat production equipment and its operation from an maintenance perspective.
- Proven ability to drive shifts, motivate crews, and operate with a strong sense of urgency to meet production demands.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to effectively lead, coach, train, and motivate teams to follow established standards and achieve goals.
- Strong performance-management skills; able to monitor direct reports, deliver constructive feedback, and improve team performance.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
- Ability to perform general mathematical calculations.
- Mechanical inclination and strong knowledge of job specifications.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word required.
- Experience in using SAP CMMS (maintenance module) to manage work orders, PM schedules, and equipment records strongly preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Subject to hot/cold and wet environments typical of a refrigerated meat processing facility.
Must have the ability to climb stairs, ladders, and perform physical tasks in varying plant conditions.
This role requires availability to work the assigned shift, including weekends and overtime as needed to support production.
