Manager of Safety, Security, and Compliance
The Manager of Safety, Security & Compliance (MSSC) is responsible for safety education, accident prevention, loss control, drug and alcohol testing programs, and regulatory compliance. Responsible for conducting the system’s Workman’s Compensation, supervision and management of the training department, and the effort to produce high-quality Micro transit Operators and conduct training to ensure optimum employee performance with minimal turnover, an emphasis on safety, and quality service provision. Establish a healthy working environment to achieve effectiveness for the company and ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, and company policies, procedures, and regulations. Responsible for the safety and security of the operations building, including service safety and security.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Achieves and maintains proficient knowledge of all driving, safety, substance testing, and workplace injury program policies, protocols, and regulations. 
  • Develops and implements general policies, procedures, and practices to be followed and adhered to by operations personnel in compliance with federal, state, local, and company rules and regulations. 
  • Reviews and ensures that appropriate training and follow-up actions are administered for safety violations.
  • Perform live and recorded observations of employee driving skills and their interactions with customers. 
  • Investigates in a timely manner all customer or client complaints and provides summary reports. 
  • Investigates directly or with Operations Supervisors assistance of all safety or driving events, including incidents, accidents, and injuries. 
  • Enter all payroll hours into ADP for student operators.  
  • Maintains a comprehensive Drive Cam program.  
  • Conducts monthly safety events, including mini safety events weekly within the service area. 
  • Spearheads the location Safety Solutions Team.  
  • Conducts annual wheelchair refresher and ADA compliance training.  
  • Responsible for maintaining all safety, training, and personal files in a secured location. 
  • Follows up and responds to safety related inquiries related to passengers and the service.  
  • Responds to accidents and safety related incidents within the service area.  
  • Ensures 30, 60, 90 post trainee evaluations are completed timely and efficiently.  
  • Direct point of contact for Respect The WeRIDE rider code of conduct program.  
  • Administer the system’s FTA drug and alcohol testing program. 
  • Responsible for delivery of safe and timely service. 
  • Conducts monthly in-service refresher training sessions with all Operators.  
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of contract requirements. 
  • May occasionally have to drive in revenue service. 
  • Achieve and maintain complete knowledge of system and telecommunications capabilities, associated software applications and Internet access. 
  • Work closely with the Manager of Service Management, Operations Supervisors and Project Administrator to achieve day to day results and overall improvements. 
  • Provides oral and written reports, statistics, data, and information internally and externally. 
  • Reports all accident information into National Transit Database (NTD), including conducting of annual NTD surveys.  
  • Maintains confidentiality of all information.
  • Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed.
  • Subject to a DOT drug testing and physical if applicable. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including cannabis, for any reason.

 

Qualifications:

  • Must have the ability to prioritize, be detail oriented, and use good judgment. 
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years Transit, Paratransit, or Microtransit operations experience.
  • Must possess excellent organizational and communications skills (verbal and written). 
  • Must be proficient with computer applications (Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.). 
  • Must have experience in Training, Safety, and security in Transit 
  • Knowledge of FTA and USDOT rules and regulation 
  • Ability to take a leadership role in solving problems. 
  • Ability to objectively investigate reports concerning operator related problems. 
  • Technical knowledge and related work experience is a plus. 
  • Must be able to pass an employment physical examination (pre-employment) and substance abuse. 
  • Must maintain an excellent motor vehicle record with at least 3 years driving experience.    
  

Physical Requirements: The essential functions of this position require the ability to:
• Work outside in varying temperature, weather, and humidity conditions-100% of the job is performed outside, work alone and in remote locations. 
• Sit for extended periods (up to 6–8 hours per day); frequently walk for long distances and on possible sloped ground or slippery and uneven surfaces
• Push and pull objects up to 50 pounds, occasionally throughout the workday; lift material weighing up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance; occasionally bend, kneel, or crouch to files or equipment stored at ground level
• Withstand heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job; tolerate exposure to considerable amounts of dust, vehicle fumes and noise.
