Safety Manager
The Safety and Training Manager ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and with company safety requirements. Responsible for continuous leadership, recruitment and training of operator candidates. Promotes strong leadership and influences positive employee morale throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluates, develops, and facilitates classroom instruction, behind-the-wheel training, and applicable work-site safety training in all aspects of vehicle operations and passenger transportation, including defensive driving, service area familiarization, passenger loading, unloading and securement.
  • Plan, develop, and implement safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations including, but not limited to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Facility Safety programs, and the Department of Transportation (DOT).
  • Document all training activities and ensure accurate completion of all training-related employee records
  • Conducts safety surveys, inspections, post-accident investigations, and prepares written reports of findings and prevention recommendations for use by company personnel and senior management. 
  • Directs the drug and alcohol program to include random drug testing and ensures all files are updated to pass regular audits.
  • Prepares, plans, and facilitates quarterly safety meetings.
  • Conduct road observations to evaluate operator safety, customer service, and knowledge of the service.
  • Assists with ordering and issuing uniforms and safety equipment for all employees.
  • Keeps abreast of current and changing regulations.
  • Assists in the hiring process for new operators, as needed.
  • Other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Demonstrates behaviors that are consistent with standards for professional and ethical conduct.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local rules and regulations regarding safety and environmental issues.
  • Exceptional knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with employees of all levels, including drivers/operators, customers, senior management, client representatives, union officials, and the general public.
  • Demonstrate regular and consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Knowledge of current and future safety trends in the transit industry.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Possess and maintain a valid CDL B with Passenger endorsement and airbrake certification.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in public transportation.
  • Experience in administering an organizational safety program, complete with hands-on driver training and maintaining federal, state, and local compliance.
  • Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedule as needed.
  • Subject to DOT drug testing and physical.
Physical Requirements:
The essential functions of this position require the ability to:
  • Work outside in varying temperature, weather, and humidity conditions-100% of the job is performed outside, work alone and in remote locations.
  • Sit for extended periods (up to 6–8 hours per day); frequently walk for long distances and on possible sloped ground or slippery and uneven surfaces
  • Push and pull objects up to 50 pounds, occasionally throughout the workday; lift material weighing up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance; occasionally bend, kneel, or crouch to files or equipment stored at ground level
  • Withstand heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job; tolerate exposure to considerable amounts of dust, vehicle fumes and noise.
