Description
The Director of Training and Compliance is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and oversight of all training and regulatory compliance programs across the organization. This role ensures that employees—from operators to supervisors—are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and certifications necessary to perform their duties safely, efficiently, and in full alignment with company policies and transportation industry regulations.
The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with a strong background in instructional design, regulatory compliance (DOT, FTA, OSHA), and workforce development in a transportation or logistics environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design and manage comprehensive training programs for new hires, ongoing employee development, and leadership growth. Develop curriculum for onboarding, safety, customer service, regulatory compliance, and technical skills.
- Serve as the primary liaison for the Client training requirements and regulatory reporting.
- Ensure company-wide adherence to federal, state, and local transportation regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of training completions, certifications, and compliance audits.
- Collaborate with legal and safety teams to update policies and procedures as regulations
- Lead a team of trainers and compliance specialists across multiple locations. Design, implement, and continuously improve training programs for drivers, dispatchers, supervisors, and support staff.
- Incorporate adult learning principles and multimedia tools to enhance training effectiveness
- Ensure all training programs meet federal, state, and local transportation regulations (e.g., DOT, FTA, OSHA).
- Maintain accurate records of certifications, training completions, and audit readiness.
- Collaborate with legal and safety departments to update policies and procedures as regulations evolve.
- Coordinate with Operations to align training with route performance, service standards, and incident reduction.
- Analyze DriveCam and other performance data to identify training needs and trends.
- Support accident prevention and risk mitigation through targeted refresher courses.
- Lead a team of trainers across multiple locations.
- Provide coaching, performance evaluations, and professional development opportunities for training staff.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and accountability.
- Draft training manuals, SOPs, internal memos, and instructional content.
- Communicate training schedules, updates, and expectations
- Prepare reports for senior leadership on training outcomes, compliance status, and workforce readiness.
- Manage Learning Management System (LMS) and ensure content is current and accessible. Implement and manage digital learning platforms (LMS) and in-person training sessions across all locations.
- Track training metrics and use data to inform strategic decisions.
- Explore and implement new technologies to improve training delivery and engagement.
- Collaborate with HR, Safety, and Labor Relations to ensure training aligns with collective bargaining agreements.
- Participate in union meetings and respond to training-related grievances or inquiries.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Transportation Management, Organizational Development, or related field (Master’s preferred)
- Minimum 3 years of experience in training and compliance leadership, preferably in transportation or logistics
- Deep understanding of DOT, FTA, OSHA, and other relevant regulatory frameworks
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with LMS platforms and digital training tools
- Strong leadership and project management abilities
- Experience in computer databases and MS Word software required.
- Must be able to work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Must be able to communicate instructions and directions in an extremely busy environment.
- Ability to quickly analyze a situation and provide an effective solution is essential.
- Ability to work under stressful situations essential.
- Knowledge of service area.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn working systems of coaches a must.
- Must be able to communicate in written form.
- Knowledge of two-way radio systems is essential.
- Ability to interact professionally with internal and external customer on all levels and be able to work well with diverse groups.
- Travel requirement (as a percent): <10% for occasional meetings.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
