Description

Judd Wire Inc., a Sumitomo Electric Group company, is looking for a Buyer in our Turners Falls, MA office.  This position is responsible for buying, planning and executing raw material purchases, using an MRP-based system.  Negotiating price and delivery from approved sources.  Analyzing usage trends, adjusting stock levels accordingly and informing suppliers of major planned purchase shifts.  Preparing and negotiating annual RFQs with critical suppliers, ensuring continuous and reliable material supply.

Pay: $45,000 - $67,000 (non-exempt/hourly)

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Establish and participate in the approval process of raw material and supply sources; receive quotations and secure bids; make purchases while controlling price from approved suppliers.  Develop and negotiate plans for supplier price and supply agreements.     
  • Maintain and control adequate stock levels and current inventory status on all assigned items.  Ensure that purchases are appropriate to support current business levels and anticipated demand.
  • Utilize inventory analysis information on aged inventory, investigate possibilities for consumption and recommend action.  Execute plans to support the reduction and avoidance of slow-moving and obsolete inventory.
  • Coordinate purchasing with Sales, Production, Quality and Engineering, providing information which directly affects quoting and delivery of product.  Work with suppliers to source new or alternate materials that may improve product cost and/or performance.
  • Recommend and execute significant purchases of materials based on anticipated price changes, availability and lead times.
  • Responsible for procurement and sales transfers to parent company.  Perform export function utilizing appropriate sales and freight documents, working closely with freight forwarding contacts to meet parent company’s delivery expectations.
  • Act as backup to the Senior Buyers as necessary performing key functional duties in their absence.
  • Perform other similar duties and tasks as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree and/or 1-3 years relevant purchasing/business experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree with focus in Business (preferred)
  • Experience in manufacturing environment a plus
  • Strong oral and written communications skills 
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effectively negotiating with internal and external resources
  • Excellent attention to detail including analytical thought processes
  • Ability to multitask in a fast pace environment with rapidly changing priorities
  • Data-driven decision and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word, and MRP essential
