Purpose: | The Road Transport Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant execution of all road transport operations. This includes fleet management, transport planning, contractor oversight, dispatch supervision, GPS-based transport monitoring, maintenance coordination, and strict adherence to HSEQ standards. The role ensures operational continuity through effective planning, real-time monitoring, and control of transport activities and related resources. This includes active oversight of own fleet and contractor performance through GPS tracking systems, ensuring compliance with approved routes, schedules, and safe driving practices, and taking timely corrective action in case of deviations. The Road Transport Supervisor ensures full compliance with safety standards across all operational activities, including RTW loading, tank draining, and the safe operation of RTWs and other vehicles under all conditions, in line with established procedures and emergency response requirements. Furthermore, the role is responsible for maintaining accurate and complete operational records, including reports, delivery tickets, certificates, logbooks, and GPS data, in accordance with company procedures. The supervisor ensures effective coordination and oversight of dispatch activities, and that emergency response procedures are clearly understood and properly executed in the event of incidents. |
Principle Accountabilities: | 1. Transport Planning, Dispatch & Coordination - Plan, schedule, and dispatch Road Transport Wagons (RTWs) in a timely and efficient manner to maximize fleet utilization and minimize overtime.
- Supervise and guide the Dispatcher to ensure accurate scheduling, vehicle allocation, and execution of daily transport operations.
- Maintain continuous communication with Drivers, Sales, and Customer Service to ensure:
- Efficient order intake aligned with logistical planning
- Delivery approvals are in place prior to execution
- Accurate tracking of delivery volumes throughout the day to support end-of-day closure
- Initiate and implement improvements in delivery scheduling to optimize distribution efficiency and balance workload.
2. GPS Monitoring & Operational Control - Monitor fleet and contractor vehicles through SOL’s GPS tracking system to ensure compliance with approved routes, schedules, and safe driving practices.
- Review GPS alerts and investigate deviations such as route variances, speeding, or unauthorized stops.
- Take timely corrective actions and escalate non-compliance where required.
- Utilize GPS data to support operational analysis, efficiency improvements, and incident investigations.
3. Fleet Maintenance & Asset Management - Implement and maintain a computerized fleet maintenance management system.
- Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance of all vehicles to ensure operational readiness.
- Review daily vehicle checklists, defect reports, and driver logs; ensure timely resolution of all identified issues.
- Ensure proper defect closure and sign-off by both driver and mechanic before returning vehicles to service.
- Monitor vehicle performance, downtime, and maintenance compliance.
4. Health Safety Environment and Quality - Ensure the highest level of safety awareness and compliance across all transport operations, in line with company and regulatory standards.
- Lead weekly driver toolbox talks and actively participate in monthly HSEQ meetings, initiatives, and safety programs.
- Conduct daily workplace observations for company and contractor drivers and take immediate action on unsafe conditions or behaviors.
- Ensure effective reporting, documentation, and timely resolution of Hazard IDs, Near Misses, and incidents.
- Assist in compliance reviews, risk assessments, and safety evaluations to support continuous improvement of HSEQ performance.
- Identify applicable laws and regulations and always ensure operational compliance.
- Maintain accurate HSEQ logs, records, and documentation in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in incident investigations, including Root Cause Analysis, and ensure implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
- Promote a proactive safety culture by driving incident prevention initiatives and influencing safe behaviors across employees and contractors.
- Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and enforce adherence to safe working practices.
- Support and participate in emergency response drills and exercises, including coordination with external agencies where required.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders, contractors, customers, and regulatory authorities.
- Drive continuous improvement and cultural change in safety performance, including addressing resistance where necessary.
- Ensure full compliance with company HSEQ policies (e.g., SOL/Sunoco) and all applicable local regulatory requirements.
5. Driver Training & Competency Management - Develop and implement annual driver training plans to ensure 100% compliance with mandatory programs.
- Conduct and/or facilitate initial, refresher, and competency-based training for drivers.
- Assess driver competency in pre-trip inspection, loading, driving, and unloading activities.
- Certify new drivers and support onboarding in line with company standards.
- Maintain training records and databases and develop targeted improvement plans based on competency gaps.
- Support annual driver evaluations and provide regular training progress reports.
6. Contractor Management - Manage transport contractors and drivers in line with contractual and company performance standards.
- Monitor contractor compliance with HSEQ, operational, and performance requirements.
- Conduct performance reviews and ensure corrective actions are implemented where needed.
- Ensure alignment with company safety programs and frameworks.
7. Monitoring, Reporting & Performance Management - Review and consolidate operational and HSEQ reports, including:
- Vehicle utilization
- Incident and defect reports
- Driver and customer site inspection reports
- Submit weekly summary reports by Monday before COB
- Submit monthly summary reports the 2nd working day of the following month.
- Monitor delivery performance through Geotab
8. Inventory & Spare Parts Control - Manage inventory of critical spare parts to ensure availability and operational continuity.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure proper control of stock levels.
- Coordinate procurement and replenishment in line with operational requirements.
9. Compliance & Documentation - Ensure accurate and complete record keeping of all operational documentation, including delivery tickets, logbooks, inspection reports, and certificates.
- Review customer site reports and ensure timely correction of operational and HSEQ gaps.
- Ensure all processes comply with company procedures, regulatory requirements, and audit standards.
10. Customer Service & Continuous Improvement - Ensure a professional and customer-focused delivery process, minimizing complaints and improving service quality.
- Identify operational improvement opportunities and implement solutions to enhance efficiency and reliability.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across transport operations.

Qualification Requirements: | - A bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Engineering, Supply chain or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum 4 years’ experience in transport/logistics operations (preferably
- fuel or hazardous materials)
- Experience in fleet management, maintenance and contractor management
- Strong knowledge of Industrial HSEQ and regulatory requirements
- Excellent Computer Skills: Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel (Intermediate to Advanced)
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in coaching, leading and inspiring teams

Planning | - Optimize distribution cost, performance, and asset utilization.
- Ensure that product measurement and quality controls are carried out to Group requirements.
- Ensure compliance and commitment to Group standards in Road Transport activities (Analysis)
- Manage day-to-day activities, safety performance in RT.
- Manage contractor and third-party relationships.
- Monitor contractor performance.
- Maintain Company tank trucks to the required HSEQ standards.
- Achieve HSEQ targets as set by the Sol Group / Sunoco.
- Improve / optimize maximum utilizations of Sol’s own fleet.

- Analyze down time of RTW’s
- Reduce downtime of any RTW
- Register and monitor RTW fleet utilization.
- New and existing site inspections.
- Manage own driver’s –schedule, performance, working hours, leave, sick.
- Keep road database and site mapping.
- Prepare monthly goal zero reports for HSEQ.
- GPS monitoring

- Assist in drafting and preparing the CAPEX and RT budget.
