EXPORT SUPERINTENDENT 
JOB DESCRIPTION - RESPONSIBILITIES: SALARIED EXEMPT
· This position does not have any direct reports. Administrative time allocation 15%; in plant, hands-on time allocation 85%. Administrative time constitutes preparing documents of flow diagrams and processes and final reports on projects conducted, as well as, necessary analyses that are to be included in the reports.
· This position requires the understanding and use of the engineering design principles – critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity on a daily basis.
· Reports to the Technical Services Director.
· Manage Quality System Assessment (QSA) Manual and Export Verification (EV) Programs. Understand the government requirements for the QSA and EV programs and be able to effectively implement the programs in the facility. This requires extensive knowledge on the plant processes and flow diagrams. Real time auditing of the processes outlined in the QSA and EV programs is essential to this position.
· Responsible for verifying the accuracy and completeness of foreign export orders. Verify export documentation for the foreign country requirements and specifications is correct. These verification activities will need to employ the principles of engineering (process, design, materials, environment, and compliance).
· Make sure product is produced to company’s food safety standards and meets quality specifications to insure customer satisfaction and proper primal placement in the box, monitor export box integrity. Extensive knowledge on the scientific, anatomical nomenclature of the products that are produced is necessary, in addition, the ability to perform and implement process mapping of plant processes that affect the products that are made.
· Communicate with scheduling on issues pertaining to the daily production schedule requirements and analysis; and that packaging meets the technical specifications and any foreign country specific labeling/ packaging requirements.
· Collaborate with operations in manufacturing sample products for potential customers abroad and conduct tours of the plant for international customers.
· Critically assess the freezer documentation for export and product transfers are timely to freezers and to export to ensure processes are maintained.
· Critically review and assess export paperwork and labels for completeness.
· Communication of export information on a daily basis to the fabrication and slaughter operations teams to improve productivity.
· Assist in training quality assurance department technicians and operations employees on the report specifications and packaging requirements.
· Provide engineering support to the QA Manager on all export audits and drive technical analysis of export claims, assisting in minimizing customer claims through engineering controls.
· Conduct investigations of plant Quality Assurance and Food Safety processes and suggest process improvements, projects, and/or tasks that need to be completed to achieve the goal, by leveraging engineering skillsets.
· Provide continuous improvement to the operating processes and procedures through use of engineering principles.
· Responsible for minimizing customer claims through engineering controls.
· Organize and coordinate activities of the Food Safety & Quality Assurance (FSQA) team for implementation of quality and food safety programs (HACCP and SSOP) and process flows.
· Communicates programs and procedures to FSQA and other plant team members by performing in-class and hands-on training.
· Interfaces with facility team to assist in problem solving using Root cause analyses when investigating daily personnel and processing incidents.
· Communicates issues to site management team to ensure the plant is complying with customer specifications.
· Be available to assist the Tech Services Director with projects or tasks as they arise.
EDUCATION
· Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred (Food Science, Meat Science, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology Engineering, Food Engineer, Animal Science, or related field); to include minimum 6 months experience in the meat manufacturing industry.
EXPERIENCE
· Extensive knowledge and technical skills in a variety of QA and production jobs, and in supervisory positions.
