TRUCK SHOP MECHANIC

The Truck Shop Mechanic is responsible for maintaining diesel and gasoline-powered equipment and trucks of all makes and models. This position ensures safe and efficient vehicle operation by conducting inspections, completing preventive maintenance, diagnosing mechanical issues, repairing equipment, and maintaining accurate service records.

Responsibilities

• Determine vehicle condition by conducting inspections, diagnostic testing, and identifying worn or damaged parts.
• Keep equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules, installing upgrades, controlling corrosion, and completing seasonal winterization procedures.
• Repair vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, and systems.
• Perform repairs and troubleshooting on powertrain, drivetrain, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emissions, braking, steering, and hydraulic systems.
• Complete machine shop operations and perform adjustments and alignments including bearings, gears, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units.
• Verify vehicle performance through test drives and system adjustments.
• Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state vehicle safety and emissions requirements.
• Maintain vehicle appearance through cleaning, washing, and painting as required.
• Maintain accurate repair and maintenance records.
• Maintain shop equipment by following operating procedures, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, and coordinating repairs when needed.
• Control maintenance costs through proper warranty utilization and evaluation of service and parts options.
• Maintain inventory of parts and supplies, place orders, and verify receipt of materials.
• Stay current on industry regulations, equipment updates, and technical practices through ongoing training and education.
• Support department goals and organizational success by accepting additional responsibilities and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.

What You’ll Need:

• Education: High school diploma or GED preferred; Previous experience maintaining diesel and gasoline-powered equipment and trucks preferred; Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
• Certifications: Valid driver's license required or willingness to obtain within six (6) months of hire.
• Skills: Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills; Ability to diagnose, repair, and maintain a wide variety of trucks and equipment; Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and repair documentation; Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; Ability to work independently and lead maintenance activities as assigned.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, climb, and use hand / power tools. Ability to work in shop, yard, and outdoor environments and safely perform maintenance tasks around heavy equipment and vehicles.
