General Summary: We are looking for a Shipping Manager for Pilgrim’s Shipping Department.

 

Pilgrim’s is seeking Shipping Manager to lead a high-performing team in a fast-paced production environment. You’ll oversee critical operations during all three shifts in shipping. You’ll manage and coordinate activities of employees engaged in preparing, verifying and maintaining records on all shipments, inventory control, loading/unloading trucks, forklift driving, and shuttle drivers. This role is responsible for ensuring safety, quality, animal welfare, sanitation, budgeting, and productivity while driving continuous improvement through data analysis and process coordination. Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate yard equipment to move trailers throughout the facility and designated yard locations.
  • Move, stage, dock, and position trailers at loading and unloading locations to support shipping and production schedules.
  • Retrieve trailers from designated yard locations and ensure trailers are available for scheduled loading and unloading operations.
  • Inspect refrigerated and dry trailers prior to use to verify they meet safety, operational, and quality requirements, including checking for damage, alarms, cleanliness, and proper operating condition.
  • Fuel yard equipment and refrigerated trailers as required and maintain appropriate fuel levels for operational readiness.
  • Maintain an accurate daily trailer inventory log, including trailer location, loaded/unloaded status, fuel status, damage reports, trailer condition, and other required information.
  • Organize trailers within the parking and yard areas to maximize efficiency, safety, and accessibility.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe trailer yard by identifying and addressing housekeeping concerns and reporting unsafe conditions.
  • Conduct pre-operation and post-operation inspections of yard equipment and complete all required inspection documentation.
  • Operate a forklift as needed to support shipping, yard, and warehouse operations.
  • Load damaged pallets and return materials using a forklift and transport them to designated locations.
  • Support other departments as needed to meet operational and production requirements.
  • Verify trailers are properly secured prior to movement and follow all trailer docking, wheel chocking, lockout/tagout, and securement procedures.
  • Operate within USDA, HACCP, food safety, animal welfare, and company guidelines.
  • Maintain awareness of pedestrians, equipment traffic, obstacles, and facility conditions while operating equipment.
  • Accurately complete all required logs, inspection reports, trailer movement records, and other documentation in a timely manner.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, shipping personnel, drivers, and other departments regarding trailer movements, equipment status, and yard conditions.
  • Promote a safe work environment by following all company, state, and federal safety requirements.
  • Report accidents, equipment defects, maintenance issues, or safety concerns immediately.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

What You’ll Need:

  • Must possess a valid, non-expired driver's license.
  • Previous experience in shipping, warehouse, distribution, transportation, or commercial driving environments preferred.
  • Previous experience operating forklifts and industrial equipment preferred.
  • Ability to safely maneuver and position trailers in a fast-paced industrial environment.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and complete required documentation.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to climb in and out of equipment frequently throughout the shift.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, and perform routine equipment and trailer inspections.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions and around moving vehicles and equipment.
