Job Title: Veterinary Field Manager
Reporting to: Staff Veterinarian
Job Status: Salaried
Position: Remote

Service Area: Example: Eastern to Southeast IA
Location: The applicant should reside in Eastern or Southeast IA, or be willing to relocate.
This position is primarily responsible for providing technical, administrative, and field support to the JBS Live Pork production staff and veterinary services team. This position is involved in managing diagnostic databases, health management spreadsheets, updating treatment guidelines and health protocols, managing prescription documentation within our system, vaccination protocols and the managing our vet supplies.

Essential Functions:

- Take an active role in safety program including following safety procedures, enforcement of policy and continued training.
- Perform all required duties in a timely manner as outlined in the S.O.P (Standard Operating Procedure).
- Complete, manage and distribute animal movement documentation and health certificates of inspection to state officials.
- Manage diagnostic submissions and communication with laboratories to deliver information to the veterinarians and production staff.
- Maintain, update, conduct routine data entry and distribute health protocols, spreadsheets, vaccination schedules, treatment guidelines and prescriptions for veterinary services, as needed.
- Oversee and manage veterinary inventory and accounting, related to veterinary supplies and medications, both physical inventory at the office and at production facilities affiliated with the system.
- Assist with compliance on health assurance testing, including, but not limited to availability of testing supplies/kits, timing of tests, submission follow-up, test result reporting and diagnostic spreadsheet management for tracking diagnostic results.
- Facilitate communication between Veterinary Services and production staff, as needed.
- Provide audit inspection services for biosecurity and protocol compliance.
- Limited responsibilities in providing field support, which could include barn walkthroughs, auditing and sample collection.
- Assist veterinarian and field staff in timely collection and submission of diagnostic samples, including tissues from necropsies, oral fluids, blood, and environmental sampling.
- Assist in biosecurity site plans as needed.
- Responsible for performing the euthanasia within the company requirements.
- Incorporate the core principles of PQA+ and TQA and JBS Animal Welfare Statement.
- Responsible for carrying out the biosecurity program as outlined by veterinarians. This would include site, vehicle, and personnel programs.
- All other duties as may be assigned
Required Qualifications:
- 5 years commercial live swine production experience.
- Extensive knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and company specific software packages.
- Willingness to take diagnostic samples, as needed, which includes blood sampling from live hogs and post-mortem tissue collection.
- Be able to understand, retain and perform oral and written instructions in English.
- Able to communicate orally and in writing with other employees and company contacts.
- Maintain an acceptable MVR as determined by JBS.
- Be comfortable working in close proximity to all age categories of swine (weaned-finish).
- Be able to bend, twist and lift in excess of 50 pounds moving up to 100 yards repeatedly.
- Be able to push/pull up to 350 pounds with a cart on wheels when required.
- Be responsive to visible signs and verbal alarms of animals.
- Be able to walk and stand for longs periods of time on different surfaces.
- Be able to climb several types of ladders including feed bin ladders.
- HS Diploma
- Must be able to work safely.
- Maintained vehicle 6 years or newer for frequent travel to facilities
- Any other duties assigned.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree in Animal Science or Veterinary field
- Bilingual – English-Spanish
- Previous Field Management experience
Working Conditions:
- General climate- Both climate-controlled office and environmentally controlled confined livestock facilities.
- During summer months, outside temperatures may exceed one hundred degrees Fahrenheit for the entire scheduled workday.
- During the winter months outside temperatures may fall below 0 degrees Fahrenheit for the entire scheduled workday.
- During and after heavy rain or snowfalls the road in and around the farms can become extremely muddy, snow covered, icy and difficult to maneuver on.
- During different job duties inside and/or outside noise can become very loud.
- Will be exposed daily to odors, dusts and gasses that may be uncomfortable or hazardous if proper procedures are not followed.
- Will be exposed to electrical boxes and machinery that are not to be entered or repaired by those who are not certified in basic electrical training and/or lock out tag out.

Travel: Day travel and occasional overnight travel.
