We’re Hiring a General Manager – University Shuttle Operations (Raleigh, NC)
 
The General Manager will proactively manage overall university shuttle operations, ensuring the delivery of safe, reliable, and customer-focused transportation services. This role provides leadership across employee oversight, contract performance, asset oversight, risk mitigation, client and campus partner satisfaction, and financial results. This position is based in Raleigh, NC and supports a dynamic university transit environment.

Key Responsibilities:
• Provides overall leadership for university shuttle operations, ensuring safe, reliable, and customer-oriented service
• Serves as primary liaison with university stakeholders, campus leadership, and Transdev corporate partners
• Establishes operational strategy in accordance with contract requirements and campus expectations
• Oversees daily operations including dispatch, scheduling, staffing, training, and performance management
• Oversees contractual assets including vehicles, facilities, and equipment
• Ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations (DOT, ADA, OSHA, EEOC)
• Develops, manages, and delivers operating budgets; monitors KPIs and implements action plans to improve efficiency and service quality
• Builds a strong safety culture and ensures a safe working environment for all employees
• Leads recruitment, development, performance management, and retention of staff
• Maintains positive labor relations and supports grievance resolution as needed
• Assesses operational trends and resource needs to proactively address service demands
• Develops customer retention strategies and continuously improves the student rider experience
• Oversees reporting requirements for client, corporate, and contractual deliverables
• Promotes effective communication across campus partners, customers, and employees
• Supports business development efforts and assists with technical sales as needed
• Provides leadership for sustainability initiatives and environmental compliance
• Performs other duties as assigned
 
Qualifications:
• Minimum five (5) years of progressive leadership experience in transit, transportation, university shuttle, or related operations
• Prior General Manager or senior operations leadership experience preferred
• Experience managing ADA or fixed-route campus shuttle services strongly preferred
• Labor relations experience in a union or team-based environment
• High School Diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree in business, Transportation, or related field strongly preferred
• Valid driver’s license
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
• Demonstrated success managing budgets and/or P&L responsibility
• Strong relationship-building skills with clients, campus leadership, employees, and community stakeholders
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop high-performing teams
• Self-starter with the ability to achieve results independently
• Understanding of transportation technology, mobile apps, Wi-Fi systems, and modern transit platforms
Physical Requirements:
The essential functions of this position require the ability to:
• Move throughout campus and operational facilities
• Sit or stand for extended periods
• Walk long distances and navigate uneven surfaces
• Lift up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance
• Occasionally bend, kneel, or crouch
• Work in varying weather conditions
• Tolerate exposure to vehicle noise, fumes, and dust
