Director of Safety, Security, & Training
The Director of Safety, Security & Training leads all safety, security, compliance, and workforce training functions within a unionized passenger transit operation. Reporting to the General Manager, this role is responsible for protecting employees and passengers, ensuring full regulatory compliance, and fostering a proactive safety culture while operating within a collective bargaining environment.

  • Competitive compensation package of minimum $115,000 maximum $140,000

Key Responsibilities
Safety & Compliance Leadership
  • Direct all accident and incident investigations involving employees, vehicles, and company property.
  • Ensure investigations are thorough, timely, and consistent with collective bargaining agreements.
  • Oversee compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, EPA, ADA, and all federal, state, local, and client regulations.
  • Maintain audit readiness and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Serve as primary liaison to regulatory agencies and client representatives.
  • Partner with Maintenance and Operations leadership to ensure safe conditions in yards and facilities.
  • Conduct routine and comprehensive safety inspections.
  • Ensure corrective actions are documented and completed.
 
Training & Workforce Development
  • Oversee classroom and behind-the-wheel training programs.
  • Ensure qualification files and compliance documentation are audit-ready.
  • Implement refresher and remedial training consistent with contractual requirements.
  • Drive Driver Safety Performance Review Programs aligned with progressive discipline policies.
  • Ensure compliance with substance abuse testing programs under federal and company standards.
 
Risk Management & Claims Coordination
  • Coordinate workers’ compensation, vehicle liability, and general liability processes.
  • Partner with HR and union representatives on return-to-work and light-duty programs.
  • Oversee safety reporting systems and risk management tools.
  • Implement safety recognition programs to reinforce positive behaviors.
Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Public Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of transit safety and training experience.
  • 4+ years of supervisory leadership experience in a unionized environment.
  • Strong knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, EPA, and ADA regulations.
  • Experience interpreting and applying collective bargaining agreements.
  • Strong investigative, analytical, and documentation skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage union leadership and frontline employees.
  • Professional safety certification.
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • Experience leading safety programs in large, multi-site transit operations.
Physical & Work Environment
  • A combination of office and field-based work in operational environments.
  • Regular exposure to vehicles, maintenance facilities, outdoor conditions, noise, and traffic areas.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods and occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Flexible schedule as operational needs require.
