Maintenance Manager

 

Become a part of our Transdev team as a Maintenance Manager in Wilmington, NC. This position supervises the vehicle maintenance and repair of the fixed route, paratransit and support vehicles. The Maintenance Manager is responsible for the maintenance oversight of fifty-nine (59) vehicles and supervision of ten (10) maintenance employees.   • Competitive compensation package of minimum $73,000 per year– maximum $91,000 per year

Key Responsibilities:  

 

  • Schedules and administers fleet maintenance and assists in troubleshooting problems with vehicles and equipment.
  • Ensures that a sufficient number of safe, roadworthy vehicles to meet the daily system service requirements; develops and adjusts daily maintenance and repair schedules to ensure system service requirements are maintained; dispatches roadside repair crews to bus breakdowns.
  • Provides direction and leadership to the assigned Maintenance functions, with responsibility for the hiring and termination decisions, training, motivation, and performance management of employees.
  • Ensures that technicians are trained on current operating procedures, are properly equipped, and are motivated so that the maintenance program can be accomplished in a safe, timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Oversee parts procurement and the management of parts inventory.
  • Management of data input into maintenance software database ensuring the accuracy and timeliness for reporting purposes.
  • Works closely with the operations and Authority management teams providing maintenance status and budget updates. Reviews financial and budget variances and accounts payable documents.
  • Ensures a safe environment exists and all maintenance activities are in compliance with State, Federal and Company requirements.
  • Initiates and implements projects that improve efficiency and/or reduce operating costs.
  • Completes special projects as assigned. Required to perform hands-on work activities.

Qualifications:

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license required; CDL with P endorsement and airbrakes preferred.
  • Requires a minimum of five (5) years of experience in progressively responsible positions relating to fleet maintenance, which include managerial/supervisory experience, and heavy equipment or transit vehicle repair experience, preferably on CNG transit buses. 
  • Excellent communication both written and oral.
  • Advanced planning and organizational skills.
  • Advanced teamwork and interpersonal skills, including negotiations and conflict resolution skills.
  • Experience working with Unions in the transportation industry.
  • Advanced analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Solid computer skills in standard office tools including word processing and spreadsheet software and use of web-based systems.

 

Physical Requirements:

The essential functions of this position require the ability to:

  • Work outside in varying temperature, weather, and humidity conditions-100% of the job is performed outside, work alone and in remote locations.
  • Sit for extended periods (up to 6–8 hours per day); frequently walk for long distances and on possible sloped ground or slippery and uneven surfaces
  • Push and pull objects up to 20 pounds, occasionally throughout the workday; lift material weighing up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance; occasionally bend, kneel, or crouch to files or equipment stored at ground level
  • Withstand heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job; tolerate exposure to considerable amounts of dust, vehicle fumes and noise.
