OVERVIEW:
The Director of Safety & Training is responsible for reducing motor vehicle accidents and work-related injuries through the implementation of company and local plans, thereby reducing losses and associated costs of vehicle accidents and work-related injuries. This position will consistently communicate the Company's commitment to safety as a comprehensive set of activities and functions that cannot be compromised. This role is also responsible for security and training associated with both safety & security. This position is responsible for the entire oversight of the Safety Department. The Director will work with the Chief Transportation Officer and the CEO to direct and manage all aspects of the local safety program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensures all accidents are properly investigated and filed with our TPA.
- Ensures WebRisk is up to date and correct at all times.
- Provides oversight of all the required 19A regulations.
- Conducts evaluations and inspections for risk of loss potential.
- Leads monthly meetings with Transportation, Maintenance, and Risk to discuss safety trends and risk of loss potential.
- Coordinates the activities of workers compensation, general liability and vehicle liability insurance carriers and insurance consultants as it affects safety and loss control. Monitors activities and make recommendations to CEO to help limit loss.
- Assures that safety inspections are properly scheduled, carried out, monitored, acted upon and documented.
- Coordinates and ensures compliance with the substance abuse testing program using Federal and Company standards.
- Manages classroom and behind the wheel training schedules, logistics and documentation.
- Maintains personnel and qualification files pertaining to training, safety and loss matters.
- Ensure the contract is in compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Department of Transportation (DOT) and other federal, state, local and company regulations, and provide support in implementing the approved recommendations.
- Accountable for ensuring that OSHA, EPA and DOT record keeping and reporting requirements are met and maintained.
- Must ensure the Security Program is in compliance with Federal Guidelines and all employees are properly trained.
- Ensure Safety Meetings are held on a regular basis and documentation is properly maintained.
- Assures that safety inspections are properly scheduled, carried out, monitored, acted upon and documented.
- Oversee the System Safety Program to ensure compliance with FTA requirement.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field is strongly preferred.
- 5-10 years of specific safety experience in transportation.
- 5-10 years of transit specific training experience.
- 5-10 years of experience regarding return-to-work best practices.
- 5+ years of experience at a managerial or director level.
- Understanding of state, federal, OSHA and other applicable legislation for workplace safety and DOT requirements.
- NIMS Certified, or the ability to acquire within first 30 days.
- Competent in NY State 19A requirements.
- Strong ability to communicate, to diagnose complex problems, and develop solutions.
- Oversee property training protocols and documentation.
- Ability to create and maintain state and federally mandated safety and security programs.
- Able to respond to emergency situations with composure.
- Thorough understanding of safety & risk financial implications.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibrations.
