Warehouse Manager

Role Purpose

The Warehouse Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing all warehouse operations, 
ensuring efficient and effective storage, distribution, and inventory management.
This role involves coordinating with various departments, managing warehouse staff, and
implementing safety and operational procedures to optimize productivity and maintain
a high level of customer satisfaction. 

Key Accountabilities 

  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure all warehouse operations comply with safety 
     regulations and company policies. Conduct regular safety audits and 
     implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Supervise Warehouse Operations: Oversee daily warehouse activities,
    including receiving, storing, and shipping products.
  • Maintain accurate records of incoming and outbound goods ensuring 
    compliance with Freeport authorisation requirements.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain accurate inventory records, conduct
    regular stock audits, and manage inventory levels to prevent shortages
    or overstock situations.
  • Staff Management: Recruit, train, and supervise warehouse staff, 
    ensuring a motivated and efficient team.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements 
    to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Coordination: Coordinate with other departments, such as procurement,
    sales, and production, to ensure smooth operations and timely delivery of products.
  • Reporting: Prepare and present regular reports on warehouse performance,
    inventory levels, and other key metrics to senior management.
  • Setting up and maintaining warehouse layout to optimize
    flow and efficiency.
  • Ensuring safe and effective use of warehouse equipment.

Management Responsibility

  • Manages and distributes the Warehouse department’s workload, 
     in order to ensure that specific tasks, responsibilities and 
     accountabilities are clearly defined and understood within the team.
  • Responsible for the performance and development of all staff 
    within the Warehouse department, including effective implementation 
    of the Performance Evaluation and development planning processes.
  • Ensures the satisfactory management and resolution of employee 
    relations issues within area of responsibility.
  • Routinely reviews and evaluates the effectiveness of communication
    across the team.
  • Manages the budget for the cost centre.
Preferred Knowledge / Skills / Experience
  • Education: Relevant certifications in logistics or supply chain management
                    or a related field is preferred
  •  Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in warehouse management
                       or a similar role.

    • Organizational: Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
    • Communication: Effective communication skills, both written and
      verbal, to interact with staff and other departments.

    • Technical: Proficiency in warehouse management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Analytical: Strong analytical skills to interpret data and make informed decisions.
    • Attention to Detail: High attention to detail to ensure accuracy in inventory management and reporting.
    • Time Management: Excellent time management skills to meet deadlines and manage workload efficiently.

About our project in Port of Nigg, Highland

Sumitomo Electric is one of the leading global manufacturers of state-of-the-art high-end electricity transmission cables, up to and including 525kV HVDC(High Voltage Direct Current) cable.
The new factory at Nigg, with investment value announced by the Scottish Government of £350M, will make a significant contribution towards realisation of the UK Net Zero Target by contributing to critical electricity transmission infrastructure to connect and deliver renewable energy, including offshore wind, to UK consumers and beyond.  In addition, the factory will create more than 150 highly skilled jobs in the Scottish Highlands, with maximum utilisation of the local supply chain for production of cables and construction of transmission cable systems.

In a significant boost for the UK green energy supply chain, Sumitomo Electric has commenced construction of its state-of-the-art subsea transmission cable factory in the Scottish Highlands. The factory will supply critical elements for the reinforcement of the UK electricity transmission grid and for connecting renewable energy production facilities to the grid.
