The Position
The Solar Solution Engineer sits within the Group Technical department and reports to the Solar Lead. They provide support for solar PV projects, primarily in the design and permitting phases. This support includes layout design and techno-economic optimisation, as well as resource and yield assessments.
 
 Key Accountabilities
 The Solar Solution Engineer is responsible for:
  • Carrying out feasibility assessments
  • Carrying out solar resource assessments and energy yield assessments
  • Supporting the techno-economic optimisation of solar projects, including solar PV System design and its impact on Balance of System
  • Carrying out miscellaneous analyses in support of project development
  • Supporting the procurement team in discussions with suppliers
  • Carrying out ad-hoc analysis and tool development
The Solar Solution Engineer may also use their skills and experience to support other areas of the business, in any of RES’ regional markets.
 
Knowledge 
  • Knowledge of statistics
  • Knowledge of the Solar PV industry and the design of utility-scale Solar PV projects. International knowledge would be an advantage.
 Skills
  • Good report writing skills and attention to detail
  • Good time management skills
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
Experience
  • Experience of working on Utility-scale Solar PV projects, working as either the Developer, EPC contractor or Technical Advisor/ Owner Engineer
  • Experience of system wide design including PV design, string sizing, inverter loading ratios, energy modelling and layouts
  • Experience of collaboration on multi-disciplinary projects
  • Experience of PVSyst or other PV simulation software
  • Experience of designing for constructability and installation would be an advantage
  • Experience in GIS would be advantage
  • Experience in a programming language such as Python would be an advantage
 Qualifications
  • Degree level qualification in Electronics, Physics, Mathematics, Engineering or a related discipline
  • Or, a suitable trade/non-vocational background with appropriate experience
