Summary:    
The Associate Commissioning Engineer – BESS position will manage activities required for commissioning/start-up and warranty requirements for utility battery energy storage system (BESS) facilities.  
 
Requirements:      
  • Manages and oversees the site commissioning personnel, ensures construction testing and QA documentation is available and assembled into the turn-over document books for the client.
  • Tracks site commissioning activities and reports to supervisor and client.
  • Supports and ensures the safe energization of electrical equipment as per energization procedure.
  • Works with discipline engineers to identify and coordinate interconnection, documentation and coordination requirements pre and post construction.
  • Supports site turnover and O&M documentation.
  • Manages and organizes the site commissioning managers’ tasks, deliverables, and activities.
  • Coordinates onsite plant commissioning and performance testing.
  • Coordinates and works with site commissioning personnel in establishment of the Safety Tagging, Lockout & Work Permit Program and ensures compliance with its provisions.
  • Works with the Construction Manager or their designee to jointly develop the Punch List prior to release of the system/equipment to Commissioning.
  • Manages the activities related to implementing project specific commissioning plan and coordinates pre-commissioning activities handover documents.
  • Interfaces with the Owner’s Operations Department to schedule O&M training. Support the field Electrical, Mechanical, Instrument/Controls, SCADA Commissioning Specialists, and Vendor representatives in the scheduling, supervision, and performance of all commissioning, testing activities, and documentation.
  • Supports Warranty requests for completed project sites.
  • Operates Company vehicle to oversee site operations.
  • Attends work regularly and punctually, as scheduled or expected.

  • Follows safety and security procedures and determines appropriate action.  Reports potentially unsafe conditions and uses materials and equipment properly.
Qualifications:   
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required.
  • 2+ years of experience with electrical utility scale commissioning personnel and activities preferred.
  • 1+ years of experience with Battery Storage utility scale commissioning preferred.
  • Domestic and international travel between 51%-75%; valid driver’s license required.
  • Familiarity with NERC guidelines and various ISO and TSO organization requirements is preferred.
  • Familiarity with DCS / SCADA control systems and methods for utility scale Battery Energy Storage Systems is preferred.
  • Ability to interpret and integrate contact documents.
  • Ability to read and understand SLD, technical drawings and installation manuals.
  • Ability to assist in the development and interpretation of project schedules.
  • Ability to communicate both internally and externally with both personnel and clients.
  • Intermediate level of knowledge in:
    • Utility scale battery energy storage facility testing for EPC or Utilities in the United States is preferred.
    • Underground and overhead distribution design; transmission systems and design; single and three phase electrical design.
    • DC systems architecture and testing.
    • Field construction, commissioning, and startup experience preferred.
    • National Fire Protection Association/National Electrical Code (NFPA/NEC) standards, NESC, NFPA 70E, and IEEE/IES/API Standards.
    • NETA and IEEE standards as related to utility scale battery energy storage facilities.
    • EMS systems, BMS systems, Inverters, Medium Voltage Transformers, MV and LV cabling, grounding, and BESS specific component testing is preferred.
    • Organization, planning, decision making, problem analyses, and leadership.
    • Commercial performance of Battery Storage System.
  • Ability to obtain a valid, current passport to travel outside the U.S.
  • Functional competencies include attention to detail, communication, continuous improvement, prioritization, and teamwork. 
Anticipated base salary range:  $69,000 - $89,000/Annually  
  
The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. This position is bonus eligible.
