The Position
The Operations Engineer will manage engineering and related projects across a broad range of cross portfolio projects. The role may be involved in Wind, Solar & Storage projects, assisting Asset Managers and Site Managers in the Management of the RES UK & I portfolio, ensuring adherence to best practice for safety, health, quality, and environmental performance throughout the project lifecycle.
The role will support the Asset Management Team with the planning, managing and monitoring of major component exchange works within the portfolio, as well as the implementation of new services that are developed by the team.
Organisational Context
The Operations Engineer will report to the Civil Engineering Maintenance Manager, joining a team of Operations engineers with broad experience across Wind, Solar and Battery Storage. They will have an influential role as part of the Operations Support Team in leading, developing and ensuring the performance of the Additional Services that are provided to our customers. Additional services are those outside the scope of our Asset Management agreements.
The Operations Engineer shall work across all disciplines understanding the procurement, contract, technical and site requirements related to each project.
The role will promote and enhance the Operations Support Team and shall be highly visible role within Asset Management, with regular travel required to operational sites throughout the portfolio in UK & Ireland. Whilst the role is UK & Ireland based, there may be opportunities to support projects in other regions or countries.
Accountabilities
The Operations Engineer will:
- Help ensure high HSQE standards across our portfolio
- Act as Project Manager on Additional Services projects by:
- Identifying opportunities within the Asset Management portfolio
- Developing and executing Additional Services activity from owner approval to completion on Wind, Solar & Storage Assets
- Ensuring compliance and deliverables are met, including supervision of various works, along with monitoring and auditing of contractors as required
- Act as Project Manager for the Asset Management team by:
- Planning, managing and monitoring works on site
- Leading as Point of Contact for duty holder roles such as Principal Designer, Principal Contractor, Project Supervisor Design Phase and Project Supervisor Construction Stage
- Developing risk, compliance, and performance processes which support growth and cost reduction targets
- Supporting other teams within UK Asset Management including Advisory, ESG, Contracts & Quality
- Support the Operations Support Team by:
- Leading on areas of personal expertise as part of the Operations Support Team objectives.
- Actively participating in Continuous Improvement, Innovation and Standardisation activities to develop RES services
Knowledge
- Knowledge of any or all renewable technology projects (Wind, Solar & Storage) in either design, construction, or operations
- Health and safety management systems
- Working knowledge of HSQE legislation and regulation in the UK & Ireland, including CDM Regulations and the Safety, Health & Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations & Temporary Works
- Knowledge of roles and responsibilities of CDM duty holder roles eg. Clients, Principal Designers, Project Supervisor Design Phase, Principal Contractors, Project Supervisor Construction Stage, Designers, Contractors & Workers
- Lifting Operations Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER)

Experience
- Projects and / or Asset Management in an engineering environment. Renewables preferred.
- At least 1 years’ experience of Grid Scale Wind, Solar and/ or Storage projects
- On site work management – Civil, Electrical or Mechanical preferred
- Principal Contractor and/or Project Supervisor Construction Stage roles
- Lifting Operations
- Contract Management
- Interpretation of engineering drawings, work instructions and design reviews.
- Principal Designer and/or Project Supervisor Design Phase roles
- Managing budgets and project costs
- Management of contractors and monitoring on site activities
- Contract specification review and preparation
- Safe Systems of Works review of contractors’ documentation
Qualifications
- Degree/HND Engineering or science qualifications or equivalent experience
- Project Management qualification or equivalent experience
- H&S eg. SSSTS, SMSTS, IOSH or NEBOSH
- Lifting Operations eg. CPCS Appointed Person
- First Aid
- CSCS, CSR, SOLAS Safe Pass
- Full Driving Licence
