POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

POSITION:Assistant Safety Manager 

DEPARTMENT:Safety  

LOCATION: Ottumwa, IA

SALARY CLASS:Salaried

QUALIFICATIONS:     

• Attention to detail
• Accuracy is extremely important
• Multi-tasking a necessity
• Computer knowledge
• Prior clerical experience and bilingual a plus
• Able to communicate verbally and in written form in English
• Good attendance record (Less than 3.0 points, for internal candidates)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Record, enter, update and verify OSHA and other safety paperwork.
• Gather information and enter data into computer systems.
• Prepare reports.
• Update and audit employee safety files.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Insure that plant is in compliance with all government and corporate safety standards.
• Review all accidents to determine trends and causes.
• Facilitate numerous training sessions to present employees with new information.
• Perform plant safety audits weekly and perform random inspections of personnel to insure safety.
• Review and/or present safety related programs.
• Track and schedule safety related training.
• Administer monthly group meetings and other specialized meetings as need dictates.
• Act as a support person for all production areas of plant.
• Work with maintenance department on safety related projects.

               SPECIAL SKILLS:
 

• CPR/First Aid Training.
• Confined Space Training.
• OSHA Training Courses.
• Computer Proficient-Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
• Program, planning and evaluation techniques.
• Strong written, verbal and computer skills are essential.
• Bilingual communication is important, but not necessary as long as a translator is present

EDUACATION:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Engineering, Business Administration or Physical Sciences would be beneficial
• 2 years’ college education recommended

EXPERIENCE:
 

•              Minimum 2 years’ safety experience, preferably within food processing industry
