Construction Manager/Field Engineer

Essential Responsibilities & Duties
- Serve as a Construction Manager (CM) on small to medium sized construction projects with construction costs up to $25 million including, but not limited to, dams, spillways, levees, pipelines, pump stations, tanks, canals, turnouts, wells, and groundwater recharge facilities.
- Read and understand engineering drawings.
- Knowledge to be safe working around large construction equipment
- CM will be responsible for ensuring contractor compliance with contract documents, daily documentation of construction activities, including potential change orders, photographing site activity, and coordination with the general contractor on construction progress.
- Coordinating with third party subcontractors for testing and surveying.
- Coordinating with local city and county inspectors.
- Review RFIs and Submittals for compliance with contract documents. Coordinate response with project engineer of record.
- Be based on-site full-time during project execution, or as appropriate for project and Client needs.
- Implement Quality Control, Quality Assurance, and Health and Safety Plans as required by GEI and Client policies.
- Communicate and coordinate with other project participants including Client, Designer, Contractor, and Regulators to expeditiously resolve construction-related issues including, but not limited to, cost overruns, schedule delays, procurement delays, quality deficiencies, regulatory non-compliance, environmental non-compliance, permit non-compliance, change orders, operational impacts, and public complaints.
- Be Client-facing during project execution, reporting to the Client and GEI senior managers on progress and receiving feedback and communicating and coordinating additional Client needs to appropriate GEI staff.
- Provide input on project scopes, schedules, levels-of-effort, and fees for CM work.
- Support engineering and design teams as needed including, but not limited to, input to construction methods and sequencing, input to construction cost estimates and schedules, contractor prequalification and review of contractor bids.
- Support GEI administrative and operations teams with project reporting and invoicing.
Minimum Qualifications
- A degree in engineering, construction management, or related field from an accredited school.
- 2 to 5 years of previous related professional experience of Public Works Construction including roadways, pipelines, bridges, water and wastewater facilities, parks, dams, canals, reservoirs, pump stations, and/or buildings.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, writing, team leadership, and conflict resolution skills.
- Strong capability to work remotely and independently while maintaining productivity and motivation.
- Enjoy working in the construction industry and being a part of a dynamic team environment.
- Familiarity with MS Office, MS Project, Primavera P6, Procore, and other typical construction management related software.
- Ability to take and pass all GEI required construction safety related training courses.
- Physically able to participate or perform construction site observations.
- Willing to travel to jobsites. Total travel up to 80% time.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Engineer in Training (EIT) or PE in State of California
- Certified Construction Manager In-Training (CMIT) or Certified Construction Manager (CCM)
- Basic knowledge of AutoCAD
- Previous experience on residential of irrigation pipeline projects
