GEI is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer / Project Manager to join our talented and highly motivated geotechnical team supporting the Knoxville, Tennessee office and our growing regional practice. This leadership role offers the opportunity to oversee geotechnical and construction oversight projects in the Knoxville area, throughout the South Region, and, as needed, nationwide.
 
The successful candidate will provide technical leadership and project management for a wide range of geotechnical engineering and construction oversight assignments. Responsibilities include serving as a trusted technical advisor, cultivating and maintaining strong client relationships, providing subject matter expertise, and supporting multidisciplinary proposal and project teams. The role also includes mentoring and training junior staff and delivering innovative, practical solutions to complex geotechnical challenges.
 
GEI’s Knoxville office and other South Region locations support a diverse portfolio of projects, including geotechnical exploration, landslide assessment, slope stability analysis, geohazard evaluations, building foundation design, retaining wall and MSE wall design, ground improvement, deep foundation design, support-of-excavation systems, and construction quality assurance and testing services.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties 
  • Exemplify commitment to technical excellence to meet client expectations and achieve client satisfaction, and profitable project execution. Serve as a technical leader, project manager, and mentor.
  • Manages project’s performance in the areas of growth, operations, and administration to ensure project achieves company goals.
  • Demonstrates leadership qualities that instill confidence from clients, subconsultants/vendors, and employees.
  • Plans, organizes, and manages the work at the jobsite location to ensure the work is accomplished in a manner consistent with organizational expectations and requirements.
  • Lead proposal efforts, presentations, maintain high visibility in the marketplace through regular client contact, participate and encourage active participation in client-based professional organizations, and make presentations at industry events.
  • Provide guidance to team members and monitors their performance, discipline, and attendance as defined by GEI policies and procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary project teams and nationwide company offices at client/project locations.
  • Grow GEI’s geotechnical practice (www.geiconsultants.com) by developing existing and new clients and markets.
Minimum Qualifications 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related fields required; Master’s Degree preferred but not required.
  • Professionally Licensed in Tennessee, surrounding states preferred (AL, KY, MS, GA, NC, VA).
  • Excellent technical report writing and communication skills.
Desired Qualifications
  • 10+ years in a project management role and client relationship management role.
  • Experience working with State and Federal clients.
  • Experience working within the utility industry.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to GEI branch offices and client sites as required.
  • Ability to build client relationships and cross-sell services to existing clients.
