GEI Consultants is seeking a motivated Geotechnical Engineer in Training (EIT) to support our geotechnical team across a range of project activities, including field investigations, laboratory coordination, analysis, and reporting. The successful candidate will work closely with experienced geotechnical and other engineering and science professionals based out of our Barrie office and will receive mentorship and progressive responsibility while working toward their Professional Engineer designation.
 
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
  • Perform geotechnical field activities, including drill rig supervision, surveying, soil and groundwater sampling, well monitoring, in situ testing, and visual slope inspections.
  • Coordinate field schedules with drilling subcontractors, utility locates, and internal field staff.
  • Communicate and coordinate daily with internal project team members.
  • Adhere to site specific Health and Safety Plans and participate in site safety briefings and audits.
  • Maintain detailed field notes and photographic documentation of procedures and observations.
  • Assist with review of soil and bedrock samples and selection of materials for laboratory testing.
  • Support the preparation of technical reports, memoranda, analyses, and specifications. 
Minimum Qualifications 
  • Undergraduate degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness and ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Strong work ethic, initiative, and attention to detail.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with strong organization and time management abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Access to reliable transportation for travel to the Barrie office and project sites, typically within approximately three hours of the Greater Toronto Area.
