Essential Responsibilities & Duties

  • Working under the supervision of a licensed engineer, will serve as a member of our Waterfront and Coastal design group working on waterfront and coastal projects, including:
  • Pier and wharf structures, dolphins, shoreline protection, seawalls, marinas, harbor, and facility dredging, and waterfront parks.
  • Assist with complex and challenging waterfront/coastal civil engineering projects for locations throughout New England.
  • Provide engineering support on a variety of civil engineering projects, including excavation support design, specialty foundation design, and traditional structural and geo-structural engineering.
  • Support evaluation and design efforts for structural steel, reinforced concrete, dams, excavation support systems, foundations, and other above and below grade structures.
  • Assist with feasibility studies and other technical analysis to evaluate various construction methods, foundation options, excavation support systems, etc.
  • Perform coastal and structural engineering analyses and design
  • Determine wave loads and perform wave runup and overtopping analysis
  • Lead teams performing field inspection of waterfront structures including underwater inspection
  • Monitor engineering project construction activities
  • Perform computation, prepare spreadsheets, prepare, and edit drawings using AutoCAD
  • Assist with preparation of engineering reports and proposals
  • Assist in proposal preparation, client development, and networking

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Coastal Engineering or Ocean Engineering, or related engineering field.
  • 3 years of experience focused on waterfront structure engineering design projects, such as pier and wharf structures, dolphins and seawalls.  Experience must include: (1) waterfront structure design experience; (2) determining wave loads, performing wave runup and overtopping analysis; and (3) field inspection of waterfront structures.
  • We will accept a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Coastal Engineering, or Ocean Engineering or related engineering field and 1 year of stated experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of experience.
  • Passing score on the PE exam.
  • Must be willing to periodically travel to out-of-state project sites. (3-5 times/year)
  • Eligible to telecommute up to 2 days/week from a home office within normal commuting distance of the Franklin office.
