GEI is seeking motivated and enthusiastic Civil Engineering Interns to join our team in 2026. Under the guidance of senior engineers, interns will support a wide range of projects across municipal infrastructure, land development, linear infrastructure, and infrastructure planning.
 
This is a great opportunity for students to apply classroom knowledge to real-world engineering projects, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and gain exposure to various aspects of civil engineering practice.
 
Essential Responsibilities & Duties
  • Assist in the development of civil engineering designs for municipal linear infrastructure (watermains, sanitary sewers, forcemains, storm sewers, outfalls, and roads).
  • Support site civil design activities, including grading, yard piping, and access planning.
  • Contribute to planning and analysis work, including hydraulic modeling, servicing studies, and infrastructure planning.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across environmental, geotechnical, and planning disciplines.
  • Support the preparation of reports, plans, technical memos, and cost estimates.
  • Assist with area servicing plans, master planning, and other infrastructure planning initiatives.
  • Provide general support to other Civil, Land Development, Structural, and Water/Wastewater teams as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Current enrolment in a Civil Engineering program at an accredited university.
  • Interest in civil design, infrastructure planning, and municipal engineering projects.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Experience with Civil 3D, MicroStation, or GIS software (ArcMap/QGIS) is an asset.
  • Motivation to learn, broaden experience, and develop engineering knowledge.
