Construction Engineer/Field Technician

GEI Consultants, Inc. (GEI) is seeking a construction engineer/technician to support construction oversight projects out of our Green Bay, Wisconsin office. Under supervision of senior staff, this individual will provide support to ongoing field construction and engineering design efforts. Field activities will include performing construction observation and documentation, materials testing services, surveying, and data collection for solid waste, building, and infrastructure projects.
Other field activities may include coordination and documentation of geotechnical and environmental soil borings; installation of wells and geotechnical instrumentation; and collection of groundwater, sediment, and soil samples. Candidate will provide office support data management and technical report development.
Essential Responsibilities & Duties
- Construction management, including inspection of large civil engineering projects for compliance with contract plans, specifications, permits and other associated contract documents and requirements. Projects may include water infrastructure, dredging, site civil development, demolition, landfills, and CCR impoundments.
- Perform field inspections at required project sites
- Perform topographic surveys to document site conditions, construction volumes, and conformance to design
- Preparation of status and daily inspection reports for documentation of work observed
- Preparation of construction documentation reports, figures, and as-built drawings.
- Provide assistance with constructability reviews, cost estimates, schedules, equipment evaluation, manpower assessment, and other civil engineering design and construction support functions
- Provide assistance with contract administration functions during construction, including quantity calculations/review, schedule analysis, change order preparation, correspondence, RFI responses, submittal review and responses, pay estimate processing, and documentation preparation, logging, and tracking
- Support design engineers and construction managers on any and all technical tasks, including data collection entry and analysis; literature research; spreadsheet development; and other general engineering tasks
- Candidate may assist in marketing and business development efforts for a growing office, including proposal preparation, client development and networking
Minimum Qualifications
- B.S. in Civil or Construction Engineering or Associate Degree in Civil Engineering Technology
- 0-2 years of previous professional experience in civil/construction engineering and consulting; knowledge and familiarity with construction inspection and testing
- Excellent technical report writing and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a project team.
- Preference will also be given toward candidates with experience using AutoCAD, Civil 3D and performing survey work.
