This role requires managing the technical requirements of major networking and telecom operators. You will leverage the OpenStack Foundation’s StarlingX project to deliver geographically distributed, high-performance, production-grade Kubernetes-based solutions for managing edge cloud infrastructure. Optimized for the network edge, the solutions you will support address service providers’ complex challenges of deploying and managing a physically distributed, cloud-native telco infrastructure. You must have experience in software engineering with a strong focus on networking. You must be capable of understanding the customer’s problems and whiteboarding solutions using our product offerings and services. You should also know and have lived through commercial software project development cycles and have a good understanding of project management. Some amount of travel will be required.
Interface & Collaboration
Report directly to Director, Telecom Solutions Engineering. You will be an integral part of the telecom solutions engineering & architects’ team you will work with specialized telco Account Managers (AM)/Directors and strive to become the trusted technical advisor to our Communication Service Provider(s) (CSP) and/or Telecom Equipment Manufacturers (TEMs) customers understanding their business needs and addressing those needs through Wind River’s products, services, and solutions. You will collaborate with the telco account team, engineering, product management, and other members of the solutions engineering team.
Design of overall platform architecture and container services features for the Cloud Infrastructure Platform.
Resident expert on assigned domains, architecting and designing new features as needed
Work with other architects to define technical roadmap for Cloud Infrastructure Platform.
Contributes to the open-source community with the aim of advancing the community. StarlingX, OpenStack and Kubernetes are communities with which you will have visibility and contributions
Research, design, and write specifications and methodologies in cooperation with other architects
Work closely with Engineering Project Managers, Engineering Development Managers, and other Architects to plan ongoing feature development.
Mentor senior developers in technology, industry best practices, procedures, and concepts.
Core Competencies & Demonstrated Success
Experience driving architectural software directions from a system viewpoint.
Experience working with and participating in open-source Communities and working effectively in an open-source development environment.
Working knowledge of components of open-source apps such as Kubernetes, OpenStack, Linux tools and services, and other CNCF components.
Software development experience with Python, Golang and other languages.
Extensive system architecture and design experience in the following domains:
Containers and micro-service design principles
Kubernetes architecture, services, and operations
Container Network Interface, Container Storage Interface and Device plugin architecture and components
Linux isolation features (cgroups, namespaces, cpusets, etc)
Graduate (Computer Science, Computer/Electrical Engineering, or equivalent technical degree).
Overall 15+ years of experience as a senior technical / architect role, extensive experience in cloud infrastructure software development.
