What you’ll do

Within the Wind River Cloud Product Deployment Engineering (PDE) team, ensure the Cloud platform product is constantly improving by analyzing actual field deployment usage of the product and contributing relevant changes into the code base. This is a highly visible position and requires significant customer interaction as well as closely collaborating with Platform Engineering and Product teams to champion required enhancements and modifications to create best in class product offerings.

The right candidate will possess proven software engineering skills.  You are expected to be versatile and able to thrive in a dynamic environment. You are comfortable managing competing priorities and can bring order to ambiguous scenarios. Maturity, impeccable judgment, and the ability to influence and lead are essential to success in this role. Utilizing your extensive experience around Cloud, Kubernetes, and 5G Core Network Architecture you will have the opportunity to architect the Cloud Platform product with a focus on infrastructure and operations of the Kubernetes container platform.

 

Who You Will Work With:

  • Account Teams, and customer architects to determine software requirements.
  • Product Line Managers, Engineering Project Managers, Development Managers, developers, and other architects to plan ongoing feature development.
  • Significant opportunity to engage with and contribute to various open-source communities.

Responsibilities:

  • Work directly with Communications Service Providers (CSPs), Telecom Equipment Providers (TEMs) or account primes to architect solutions using the Wind River Studio Operator products.
  • Exhibit leadership skills during customer requirements analysis and creating technical solutions as well as identifying potential business opportunities.
  • Understand the customer use cases and help develop POCs or demonstrations that can be used to refine product requirements.
  • Oversee integration of Cloud Platform features, design of new features, scoping of work, and defining approaches with colleagues and upstream communities.
  • Contribute to the open-source community with the aim of advancing the community. StarlingX, OpenStack and Kubernetes are communities with which you will have visibility and contributions.
  • Research, design, and write specifications and methodologies in cooperation with other architects.
  • Work with other architects to define a technical roadmap for Wind River Cloud products.
  • Work closely with Engineering Project Managers, Engineering Development Managers, and other Architects to plan ongoing feature development.
  • Work with Product Line Management, Sales, and customer architects to determine software requirements. Direct customer engagement and travel will be possible.
  • Generate outward-facing whitepapers, blogs, presentations and talks at conferences.
  • Investigate new technologies and techniques and research ongoing industry developments.
  • Assist in project management decisions.
  • Mentor senior developers in technology, industry best practices, procedures, and concepts.

 

Core Competencies:

  • 8- 12 years experience in a senior technical / architect role, including extensive experience in cloud-native design.
  • Experience and working knowledge of the 3GPP 4G/5G specifications and 5G edge deployments.
  • Experience driving architectural direction and design to build product solutions.
  • Experience working with and participating in open-source Communities and working effectively in an open-source development environment.
  • Working knowledge of components of open-source apps such as Kubernetes, OpenStack, Linux tools and services, and other CNCF components.
  • Exposure to SDN concepts, Network Function Virtualization (NFV), and ETSI-MANO.
  • Extensive system architecture and design experience in the following domains:
    • Distributed cloud and multi-cloud architectures and operations
    • Cloud Platform real-time application deployment and performance tuning
    • High availability design and redundancy models
    • Declarative provisioning and deployment models, supporting Infrastructure as Code and Zero Touch Provisioning

 

  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure and GCP.
  • Familiarity with Agile development and Dev Ops is a significant asset.
  • Experience with git and development build tools.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.
  • Comfortable working in a geographically distributed team environment with regular business travel.
  • Proven ability to work across many technology areas, act proactively and own a problem.
  • Able to enthusiastically work, interact with and educate diverse groups such as sales, marketing, business development, partners, support, etc.
