Senior Manager – Software Safety Certification (DO-178)

What You’ll Do      

Wind River Systems is seeking an experienced high-performing Manager of Safety & Certification.  The successful candidate will develop and implement processes and tooling to drive accelerated product development across multiple verticals including Automotive, Aerospace & Defense and Industrial.      

These tools & processes will form a critical offering to speed the development of cloud and embedded connected intelligent systems. Just a few examples could be avionics systems, autonomous cars, warehouse robots, medical devices, and rail.      

The successful candidate will report to the Director of Safety & Certification and will work with stakeholders to manage a highly skilled development team delivering the internal and external tools, at a cloud scale, and process across the complete lifecycle of certified products.      

       

In the past you’ve:      

  • Managed teams implementing processes and tools for safety-certified systems
  • Succeeded in launching software-centric systems certified to DO178. IEC61508, or ISO26262 certified experience a bonus
  • Developed and led development of embedded software applications or RTOS
  • Authored, applied and defended DO178-C compliant plans and standards
  • Trained engineering teams on detailed application of process to software certification
  • Responsibilities:
  • Manage development of DO178c compliant processes
  • Manage DO178c Process Change Control Board, workshops and Q/A sessions to ensure engineering teams understand objectives and details of process
  • Manage cert tools development for multiple certification simultaneous projects to ensure appropriate use of standards, tailoring and re-use of artifacts

       

Minimum Qualifications:      

  • Manager in a software engineering functional for functional safe software systems
  • Expert in requirements management, certification processes, automated tested, and evidence generation
  • Experience with certified embedded hypervisors, RTOS, and application development
  • Agile mindset and comfortable with ambiguity.
  • 14 years of industry experience in a DO-178 regulatory environment
  • 7 years experience in development of safety certified embedded software, either RTOS or application in C language
  • Strong understanding of the application of DO-178c over the software lifecycle
  • Involvement in SOI-1 through SOI-4 milestones
  • Experience and ability to define process
  • Experience managing cert artifact re-use
  • Experience and ability to lead training in an engaging way 
  • Strong ability to communicate (written and verbal)
  • BSc / MSc degree (Computer Science, Computer/Electronic Engineering, or equivalent technical degree).

Compensation              

The annual base salary range for this role’s listed grade level is currently $165,000to $210,000 plus bonus for residents in the states of Colorado, New York , and New Jersey; and $190,000 to $245,000 plus bonus for residents in the states of California and Washington, and the NYC area. Salary ranges are determined through interviews and a review of education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities of the applicant, and equity with other team members. Employees in this role are also eligible for the following benefits in accordance with the terms of the Company's plans: health, dental, vision insurance, life insurance, flex time off, eligibility to enroll in 401k, 12 paid holidays.
