Tyler Technologies is seeking Software Development Interns to join our Public Safety engineering teams in Troy, MI as part of our Summer 2026 Summer Internship Program. As an intern, you will work alongside experienced engineers on real production systems used by police, fire, EMS, and emergency communications agencies across the country.

This role is designed for students who want hands-on experience building, testing, and delivering software while learning modern engineering practices in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and enhance software features under the guidance of experienced engineers
  • Write clean, testable, and maintainable code that ships to production
  • Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and team ceremonies
  • Debug issues and contribute to improving system reliability, performance, and scalability
  • Learn how production software is planned, built, tested, and deployed in a real-world environment
  • Collaborate with product managers to understand user needs, tradeoffs, and system constraints

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
  • Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals (e.g. data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design)
  • Experience with at least one programming language through coursework, projects, or internships
  • Familiarity with databases or data modeling concepts
  • Strong problem-solving skills and curiosity to learn new technologies
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and communicate technical ideas clearly

Preferred Qualifications (Not Required)

  • Experience with web or backend development
  • Exposure to cloud platforms, CI/CD pipelines, or distributed systems
  • Familiarity with automated testing or system observability concepts
  • Experience using modern developer tools, including AI-assisted coding tools
  • Personal, academic, or open-source projects that demonstrate curiosity and initiative
