Overview of Position: The Litigation Generalist provides legal support for all aspects of the Company’s litigation matters (auto, general liability claims including some commercial and employment-related litigation) as well as identifying and coordinating internally to roll out targeted trainings and safety initiatives to reduce future lawsuits of all kinds. This role will report primarily to Randall Lewis the General Counsel and work closely with Max Brusky the Associate General Counsel, Litigation. This role will also have responsibility to take on special projects (on an as needed basis) as a litigation generalist including, for example, claim management and policy-focused work, safety/operations advisories at certain or multiple locations, or insurance- or finance-related projects, creating presentations and preparing for and participating in risk committees with executives of the company.

Key Responsibilities: - Support Safety and Operational teams to ensure Transdev maintains best in class safety and regulatory policies, programs and practices.
- Responsible for alerts and handling of all major safety incidents; as well as internal reporting and coordination with outside counsel related to incident response.
- Working with and under the leadership of the AGC - Litigation, taking responsibility for Company’s Auto and General Liability claims litigation portfolio including outside counsel management; post-incident remediation measures and related considerations; internal reporting on high exposure/key matters; and development of strategies to reduce/mitigate claims.
- Provide strategic support of all litigation including attending depositions, trials, mediations and settlement conferences, as well as managing external counsel on all aspects of various litigation matters pursuant to the overall goals and strategies as set by both the General Counsel as well as the Associate General Counsel, Litigation.
- Litigation management – management and direction of outside counsel on specific matters and in accordance with broad company strategy. Assist outside counsel where needed in all phases of representation – rapid response to loss events, pre-trial investigation and resolutions, pleading, motions, fact discovery, expert discovery (including review and approval of expert), trial, and appeal.
- Work with Third Party Claims Administrator (TPA) on individual claims, on reviews and approvals on matters up to a certain, defined authority level, and to assist on defense of larger and catastrophic claims.
- Management of litigation-related contractual relationships with clients, including tender of defense analysis and direction, 3rd party records requests, some claim investigation, and other assistance to clients.
- Support the Company’s Risk Management team in the management of TPA’s performance; review TPA reports and provide key takeaways to senior management; attend and participate in periodic claim review roundtables.
- Assist with claim and reserve evaluation, reporting, and data presentation.
- Work in close partnership with Company’s Finance and Insurance teams to manage coverage programs, assess proper case reserves and related actuarial analysis.
- Analyze and manage initiatives and strategies to reduce overall legal spending as well as the cost to settle auto, general liability and workers compensation matters.
Education, Licensing, and Certifications: Bachelor’s Degree and JD from accredited law school with admission to one or more state bar. Experience Required: Minimum of 7 years of legal experience including extensive general casualty litigation/personal injury/general tort liability. Law firm experience preferred. In-house experience managing a national liability claims program preferred but not required. Skills and Knowledge Required: - Demonstrated independent management of significant claims litigation portfolio including direct management of outside counsel.
- Experience managing a national, commercial liability claims program preferred.
- Prior experience managing internal and external counsel
- Transportation and related safety and regulatory experience preferred.
- Superior analytical skills and judgment required.
