HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGER
Sumitomo Electric Carbide Manufacturing, Inc. (SCM) is seeking a Human Resource Manager.  This role is responsible for managing all aspects of Human Resource functions, to include various tasks such as recruiting, administering benefits, managing employee relations, enhancing employee morale and engagement, handling unemployment and layoffs, managing leaves, ensuring accurate payroll processing, overseeing compensation, and other special projects.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborates with the leadership team to comprehend and implement the company’s human resource and talent strategy, particularly in relation to present and future talent requirements, recruitment efforts, employee retention, and succession planning.
  • Leads and supervises the talent acquisition process, encompassing activities such as recruitment, interviewing, and selection of qualified job candidates; partners with department managers to ascertain the necessary skills and competencies for vacant positions.
  • Offers assistance and guidance to Human Resources personnel, management, and other staff in handling intricate, specific, and sensitive inquiries and concerns.
  • Responsible for carrying out routine duties in delicate situations, such as accommodating reasonable requests, conducting investigations into allegations of misconduct, and overseeing terminations.
  • Handles employee relations matters, including conflict resolution, wage disputes, employee disputes, attendance concerns, and addressing general inquiries.
  • Supports management in the disciplinary process by ensuring accurate data collection and adherence to company policies.
  • Analyzes compensation and benefit trends, and provides recommendations for competitive base and incentive pay programs to enhance talent attraction and retention within the organization. Contributes to compensation surveys, develops revised wage scales as needed, and prepares new position descriptions.
  • Develops and implements learning and development programs and initiatives that offer valuable internal development opportunities for employees.
  • Manages the safety committee to mitigate safety hazards for employees and ensure compliance with ISO and OSHA inspections, as well as other audits. Monitors safety issues, incidents, and conducts thorough investigations when required.
  • Oversees payroll operations by addressing concerns and ensuring the smooth and timely processing of employee salaries.
  • Supervises the execution of annual performance evaluations by the managerial team.
  • Stays updated on industry trends, current best practices, regulatory updates, and emerging technologies in the fields of human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Regularly assesses and updates policies and practices to align with compliance standards.
  • Performs additional tasks and projects as assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Responsible for recruiting, conducting interviews, hiring, and facilitating training for new staff members in the department.
  • Supervises the daily operations and ensures efficient workflow within the department.
  • Offers support and fills in for staff members when necessary.
  • Delivers constructive and timely performance evaluations for team members.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING ENVIRONMENT:  The role entails primarily office-based work with occasional visits to the production floor. The production floor has good lighting and moderate noise levels. The Staff Member will need to spend long periods of time sitting and may need to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects weighing at least 40 pounds. Flexibility in working hours is required, including the ability to work beyond regular business hours as needed. Some travel for work may be required on occasion.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university, along with a minimum of five to ten years of relevant experience and/or training. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
  • Ability to comprehend and evaluate company policies, procedures, safety guidelines, and various business documents, forms, and instructions.
  • Proficient in verbal and written communication, as well as delivering presentations. Possess strong interpersonal skills, the ability to negotiate, and expertise in conflict resolution.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and critical thinking in making administrative and procedural decisions, especially on matters that are sensitive and confidential.
  • Ability to collaborate and contribute effectively within a team setting.
  • Proficient in gathering and analyzing statistical data, generating reports, and effectively planning, coordinating, and administering intricate administrative systems and processes.
  • Extensive understanding of labor laws, regulations, and upcoming legislative changes pertaining to employment.
  • Experienced in utilizing MS Office suite.
  • Ability to efficiently work with regular, pre-determined deadlines.
  • Ability efficiently collaborate with individuals from various backgrounds and cultures.
  • The ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals is required.
  • Effective employee development and performance management skills.
