Job Title
Quality Engineer I
 
Basic Purpose
  • Evaluate wire harness components using various testing equipment including: Force Tester, Visual Measuring System, Moisture Analyzer, Rubber Hardness Tester, Temperature Chamber, Caliper, Micrometer, and XRF Analyzer.
  • Maintain proper working order and calibration of all evaluation equipment.
  • Schedule and coordinate calibration of evaluation equipment, and maintain corresponding records.
  • Maintain 5S and ensure a safe working environment in the lab.
  • Manage inventory and records of testing plates, jigs, and fixtures.
  • Review and maintain quality and inspection documentation, including inspection reports and evaluation schedules.
  • Standardize testing methodology by creating and updating Work Instructions for continuous improvement.
  • Plan and procure jig fixtures for various projects.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Set up and operate testing equipment for new component evaluation, including a Visual Measuring System, Force Tester, Moisture Analyzer, Rubber Hardness Tester, Temperature Chamber, Caliper, Micrometer, and XRF Analyzer.
  2. Evaluate component appearance, function, dimensions, and raw materials to support SEWS trial and APQP activities.
  3. Investigate root causes of failures or defects through analysis and additional testing.
  4. Prepare and complete component evaluation and inspection reports.
  5. Organize and file inspection reports and lab documentation.
  6. Maintain operational condition and calibration records of all CEG equipment.
  7. Create and maintain Work Instructions and procedures related to component evaluation processes.
  8. Develop or update Work Instructions.
  9. Standardize testing methodologies for continuous improvement.
  10. Train CEG engineers and SEWS CFT associates in component evaluation methods and equipment use.
  11. Maintain 5S and ensure lab safety compliance.
  12. Conduct XRF testing using x-ray equipment for Substances of Concern.
  13. Assist in sourcing and ordering lab equipment, test plates, jigs, and fixtures.
  14. Prepare and present KPIs related to lab activities.
 
Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field required (BSEE or BSME preferred).
  2. 0–3 years of experience in product evaluation or quality engineering.
  3. Hands-on experience with product evaluation using a Visual Measuring System and Force Tester.
  4. Experience in automotive component development preferred.
  5. Understanding of GD&T (certification preferred).
  6. Strong communication skills, team-oriented, and motivated to take on challenging tasks.
  7. Ability to multi-task effectively (e.g., component evaluation, equipment/jig procurement, evaluation planning).
  8. Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
  9. Typing speed of at least 50 words per minute.
