Join Our Team    

You will be Global Head of Casualty Underwriting and report to the Global CUO. You will be responsible for shaping and driving the overall business strategy and appetite for Casualty Underwriting. This role is fundamental to our ability to grow the business profitably and strategically. Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Ensure appropriate pricing tools, systems and controls are in place and adhered to for the monitoring of product underwriting activities, including exposure, income, risk, and performance.
  • Conduct product business reviews, including review of loss and industry information to identify systemic issues; product area deep dives; and quarterly report on product strategy and performance.
  • Monitor and reporting on shock events (Risk and CAT) impacting Casualty Underwriting
  • Product governance including:
  1. Set and monitor product underwriting authority limits for underwriters based on direction set by Group Casualty Underwriting Officer (CUO);
  2. Product wording guidelines;
  3. Product referrals; and
  4. Serve as product area of expertise for new opportunities.
  • Direct owner/trader of all or portion of product portfolio (important that Product Head is outward facing and, in the markets, to inform views and for economic efficiency).

  

Key Accountabilities 

  

  • Working collaboratively with key stakeholders to design, promote, and execute underwriting strategies to achieve the Casualty business plan.
  • Collate and own the Casualty P&L (including SiriusPoint’s Binding contract business). Monitor variances against plan and work with key underwriters to take remedial action where performance deviates from plan.
  • Allocate capacity to region and product according to the optimal dynamics of the portfolio whilst considering exposure relative to SiriusPoint’s extended peer group.
  • Ensure that SiriusPoint’s Casualty aggregations including clash exposures remain within approved Group risk tolerances and Underwriting Guidelines.
  • Develop a framework to execute new Top Line and Bottom-Line initiatives and embed this in the Underwriting process.
  • Establish, develop, and chair an Emerging Hazards Forum. Evaluate the impact Emerging Risks may have on Current and Prior Underwriting year loss ratios and how these trends should influence future Underwriting strategy.
  • Work with HR to design a clear systematic training program for junior underwriters.
  • Engage with key stakeholders across the Group to formulate future Casualty plans that are both ambitious but realistic.
  • Working with Brokers and Insureds to reinforce SiriusPoint Casualty underwriting positions.

  

Organizational Accountabilities 

  

  • Work collaboratively with the CUO to ensure that their views are incorporated into Casualty underwriting strategies and that strategies are aligned with executive management expectation.
  • Pro-active stakeholder engagement including local face-to-face local meetings.
  • Close involvement with the actuarial team to continuously improve pricing and return on capital tools and to ensure that loss ratios in Casualty Business Plans are both robust and appropriate.
  • Transfer expectations and knowledge to Casualty underwriters regarding Senior Management perceptions of acceptable and attractive risk and to ensure ‘buy-in’ to Underwriting Strategy. Work collaboratively with these parties to ensure the execution of the Casualty business plan.
  • Close involvement with Head of Exposure Management to ensure that the loss assessment framework is appropriate for Casualty lines.
  • Close involvement with Group ERM to present information as required for Group Board reports and presentations to Rating Agencies/Regulators.

Technical Skills & Experience 

  • Extensive casualty related experience in a variety of markets (E&S, Admitted)
  • Strong Wholesale experience as book is predominantly a Wholesale distributed business.
  • 15+ years-experience at a senior level within casualty underwriting.
  • Proven track record of directing and optimizing portfolios whilst simultaneously improving underwriting results.
  • Demonstrable ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders across regions and the full spectrum of hierarchy.

SALARY:  The estimated salary range for this position is $350,000 per year to $400,000 per year. This is a good-faith assessment of the salary range for this position only.  In determining the actual salary within this range, SiriusPoint will consider a candidate’s relevant experience, location, and other job-related factors.
