Position Title: Transportation Manager
Job Status: Salaried
Direct Reports: Internal Truck Wash, Live Haul Drivers, Cull Depot
Reports Directly to: Regional Director
Salary: $58k+ DOE
Nature of Position:
This position will manage all aspects of the scheduling and logistics of wean pigs, cull sows and gilt movements in their region. This position will be an integral part of driving system development and daily operations efficiency. This is an “on call” position, meaning that the individual in this role must be accessible outside of normal working hours.
Essential Functions:

- Responsible for establishing, maintaining, and communicating movement schedules to all pertinent individuals including, but not limited to, field staff, contract haulers and plants.
- Work with all parties to ensure product specific actions are met throughout all phases of delivery.
- Responsible for ongoing measurement of key performance metrics and for establishing action for continuous improvement.
- Will work with animal welfare, field staff, producers, truckers, and plants on issues that arise regarding animal handling and transport.
- Will partner with the grow finish team, pig flow specialist and regional director to develop strategies to minimize freight costs and improve efficiencies.
- Responsible for creating, implementing, and auditing the SOP’s and policies that pertain to function for the position. These functions pertain to but are not limited to biosecurity, truck washes, trailer requirements, driver requirements and site management related to the delivery and shipment of swine.
- Responsible for managing processes to ensure that PQA and TQA guidelines are being met or exceeded.
- Responsible for managing all Midwest Region internal transport staff.
- Manage the P&L of Midwest Internal Transport Department.
- Responsible for diagnosing preventive maintenance as it pertains to the truck wash related facilities.
- Manage all Midwest region freight pay (paid weekly) for externally hauled wean pigs, gilts and cull sows.
- Oversee the cull sow sort floor (Bluff Bottom – 1 team member) for Midwest region.
- Responsible for managing all contract hauler relationships, including, but not limited to contracts, regulatory compliance, and safety.
- Must understand pig flow at all levels of the system including weaned pig and feeder pig/overstock movements.
- All other duties as assigned by manager.

Job Qualifications:
- REQUIRED:
- Extensive knowledge of logistics or commercial swine production.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and related software.
- Accessible outside of normal working hours.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing in a positive manner.
- Must be self-driven, and self-motivated, and comfortable with limited daily direction.
- PREFERRED:
- Bachelor’s degree in agriculture or logistics field.
- 2 years’ experience related to this position.

Working Conditions:
- General climate-controlled office environment
- Required to be able to operate all office equipment, sit for long periods with extended computer work sessions.
- Temperatures at work sites will vary depending upon season and location.
- Exposure to various elements inherent with agriculture production
- The noise level in the work environment is generally moderate.
