Electrical Project Engineer

The Electrical Project Engineer provides coordination of project execution and control to achieve continuity of purpose within scope, budget, and time schedules from initial start up through construction completion, if applicable. The position is also accountable for handling specific technical aspects of projects appropriate to his/her discipline field. Perform related responsibilities as assigned.

Responsible for assuring the efficient and expeditious completion of projects to the client's satisfaction. Complete projects economically within schedule and budget. Supervisory responsibilities consist of the leadership of a design team for assigned projects, if applicable or technical support personnel during field investigations.

The Electrical Project Engineer is responsible for all design decisions of the projects assigned and for checking the work of professional and technical staff assigned to projects. The degree of supervision is determined by the complexity of the work and capabilities of assigned staff. Technical involvement includes the actual design and checking of calculations. Selecting equipment and material for projects and/or approving manufacturer's shop drawings of these specific items. Consulting and advising clients on methods, equipment and other items pertinent to their project.

Responsible for performance of project work within budget and providing the client the most efficient results at lowest practical cost. Where applicable, will through field investigations, monitor contractor's efforts and report on them to client. Project execution and control are primary roles of the Electrical Project Engineer and involve the coordination, completion, and communication of project design scope and status both internally and externally to clients, regulatory agencies, and contractors.

Responsible for maintaining and expanding the technical capabilities and know-how on the types of design projects involved so that the firm provides its clients with current and advancing technology to meet their needs and to enhance both the firm's and engineer's professional image.


B.S. in Electrical Engineering with five years experience. Certification required Professional Engineer

A DoD security clearance is required for this position or the ability to obtain one

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Assigns tasks to and directs engineers, technicians, and administrative staff
  • Able to analyze, interpret and present data.
  • Able to meet time sensitive deadlines and carry out multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Uses standard company tools to evaluate profitability and track budgets.
  • Maintains a valid driver’s license and is able to travel.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software.
  • Understanding CAD programs including AutoDesk Civil 3D and AutoCAD.   Understanding of Bently Microstation and ERSI Arc Map a plus.
  • Able to complete requests for proposals, explain scopes of work (RFP) and obtain vendor quotes.
  • Effective organizational skills to maintain deliverables, analytical results, and field notes in project files.
  • Effective oral and communication skills to assist with report writing, proposal preparation, and engineering/construction cost estimates.
  • Able to work effectively in group settings and direct Engineering Assistant on design and investigative tasks.
  • Active member of professional organization suited to specific practice area is a plus (i.e. SAME, ASCE, NACE, etc.)
