The Fuels Project Engineer provides coordination of project execution and control to achieve continuity of purpose within scope, budget, and time schedules from initial start up through construction completion, if applicable. The position is also accountable for handling specific technical aspects of projects appropriate to his/her discipline field. Perform related responsibilities as assigned. 
 
Project execution and control are primary roles of the Fuels Project Engineer and involve the coordination, completion, and communication of project design scope and status both internally and externally to clients, regulatory agencies, and contractors. Responsible for maintaining and expanding the technical capabilities and know-how on the types of design projects involved so that the firm provides its clients with current and advancing technology to meet their needs and to enhance both the firm's and engineer's professional image.

Expected Outcome: 
  • Assigns tasks to and directs engineers, technicians, CAD, and administrative staff.
  • Coordinates project execution and control to achieve continuity of purpose within scope, budget, and time schedules from initial startup through construction completion.
  • Assists Senior Engineers and Project Managers in leading design teams for assigned projects and is the technical support personnel during field investigations.
  • Assists with making project design decisions and for checking the technical work of professional and technical staff assigned to projects. The degree of supervision is determined by the complexity of the work and capabilities of assigned staff.
  • Technical involvement includes the actual design and checking of calculations; selecting equipment and material for projects and/or approving manufacturer's shop drawings and submittals; and consulting/advising clients on methods, equipment, and other items pertinent to their project.
  • Assists Senior Engineers and Project Managers in meeting project budget, schedule, and quality performance requirements to provide clients with delivery, high quality work at lowest practical cost.
  • Monitors contractor's efforts and reports on them to project team and client.
  • Ensures project execution and control by effectively coordinating and communicating project design scope and status with the contractors, internal team, clients, regulatory agencies, and contractors.
  • Maintains and expands the technical capabilities and know-how on our design projects, so that the firm provides its clients with current and advancing technology to meet their needs.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • B.S. in Engineering with 3 to 10 years’ experience.
  • Professional Engineer certification achieved or in progress.
  • Must be able to obtain access to work on federal facilities.
  • Able to analyze, interpret and present data.
  • Able to meet time sensitive deadlines and carry out multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Able to work effectively in group settings and direct Engineering Assistant on design and investigative tasks.
  • Uses standard company tools to evaluate profitability and track budgets.
  • Maintains a valid driver’s license and can travel.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software.
  • Understanding CAD programs including Autodesk Civil 3D and AutoCAD
  • Able to complete requests for proposals, explain scopes of work (RFP) and obtain vendor quotes.
  • Effective organizational skills to maintain deliverables, analytical results, and field notes in project files.
  • Effective oral and communication skills to assist with report writing, proposal preparation, and engineering/construction cost estimates. 
Highly Desired Skills (not required for application):
  • This position is for the fuels infrastructure team; experience in design or construction of piping, tanks, offload systems, fill stands, pumps and motors, filter vessels, and all associated equipment is desired.
  • Understanding Bently MicroStation and ERSI Arc Map a plus.
  • Industry certifications such as API 653, 570, or 510; STI SP001; NACE.
  • Knowledge and experience in working on government programs such as RMS, ProjNet and SpecsIntact.
  • Knowledge and experience working on federal construction projects.

Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors.

Salary Range: $66,400 - $88,600 - $110,700
