As the Munitions Response Project Engineer or Scientist you will serve as a technical lead supporting project managers on pursuing, planning, and delivering munitions response projects to our Federal, State, and commercial clientele. You will direct and mentor junior staff and coordinate in-house and external resources to ensure program and project objectives are being achieved at a high level of safety, quality and efficiency. Weston seeks individuals who possess an independent ability to problem solve and who can provide technically acceptable, cost-effective solutions for our customers.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, geology, environmental science or closely related field with 4 to 20 years’ experience (salary will commensurate with experience)
  • Recent and directly related munitions response project experience is preferred.
  • Documented experience working in CERCLA-related MMRP projects for the DoD from Site Inspection to Remedial Action.
  • Must have experience in leading and/or participating in proposal efforts
  • HTRW experience is a plus
  • Must have strong communication skill (verbal and written); field work capability; good organization ability; data analysis; compatibility with other workers; and demonstrated ability to carry out independent original scientific work

 Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement strategies to characterize or remediate sites contaminated with munitions and explosives of concern (MEC), material potentially presenting an explosive hazard (MPPEH), munitions constituents (MC) and/or other contaminants of concern.
  • Select various types of instrumentation and methods such as Incremental Sampling Methodology to access MC concentrations due to munitions use or at small arms ranges.
  • Coordinate the results from digital geophysical mapping surveys, intrusive investigations and MC sampling to achieve project objectives and reporting requirements.
  • Prepare planning documents such as a Uniform Federal Policy for Quality Assurance Project Plan (UFP-QAPP) and Accident Prevention Plans (APP) and Site Safety and Health Plans (SSHPs).
  • Develop other RCRA and CERCLA related documents like Remedial Investigations, Feasibility Studies, Proposed Plans, Decision Documents and Remedial Designs, as an example.
  • Serve as a mentor and provide technical guidance and expertise to practice area professional staff.
  • Lead and/or participate in proposal efforts.
  • Conduct site visits or fieldwork as required.
  • Provide presentations as part of the technical project planning process, restoration advisory board or other public meetings.
  • Familiarity with Visual Sample Plan (VSP) and UXO Estimator
