Weston is hiring an Electrical Engineer to support our engineering and construction projects.  You will work with and learn from project teams, senior electrical engineers, project engineers, CAD staff, project managers and clients.  Work is performed in compliance with appropriate professional standards.  We are looking for an electrical engineer who is interested in gaining broad experience in power distribution, switchgear, substation design, area classification analysis, emergency power, lighting and grounding systems, fire detection systems, SCADA, controls, process and instrumentation diagrams, single line electrical diagrams, electrical plans, and schematic control diagrams.  This role also includes working with, supporting and learning about civil, structural, mechanical, piping, instrumentation, construction, and field engineering. 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited program, plus zero to 2 to 4 years experience.
  • Fundamentals of engineering (EIT) certification is preferred.  Weston will support your development to gain professional engineering registration.
  • US citizen with ability to obtain secret security clearance during employment or a current secret security clearance is required.
  • Maintains a valid driver’s license and be able to travel to work assignments.
  • Willingness to travel and support work at client and construction sites (~20% - 40% of the work year) is required.
  • Familiarity with NEC (National Electric Code) and NFPA 70E (Arc Flash safety) is a plus.
  • Active member of professional organization suited to specific practice area is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of the proce­dures which are necessary to execute a sound and efficient project, with the goal of developing good project engineering techniques.
  • Knowledge or experience with PLC-based control systems/instrumentation, hard wired relay control systems, wireless RF communications, network infrastructure and design, advanced metering, and SmartGrid are a plus.
  • Ability to specify instruments and develop instrument data sheets is a plus.
  • Able to meet time sensitive deadlines and conduct multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software.
  • Able to complete requests for proposals, develop scopes of work (RFP) and obtain vendor quotes.
  • Effective oral and communication skills to review report writing, proposal preparation, and engineering/construction cost estimates.
  • Work effectively in a team environment to support other engineering disciplines (e.g., process, structural, mechanical, civil, etc.) and CADD operators to achieve project requirements.

Responsibilities you will learn and activities you will perform working with more experienced staff:

  • Provide field QA/QC and oversight services for construction projects (job focus will be the technical execution of various projects related to electrical system design, bidding, and construction).
  • Perform design development and assist in providing technical direction to the scope of projects; provide technical expertise on all project aspects associated with conceptual engineering, detailed engineering designs, and preparation of contracts for construction.
  • Prepare subcontractor scopes of work, detailed design drawings and specifications, respond to RFIs, and conduct shop drawing reviews.
  • Review and perform various engineering related calculations and analyses of information in the application of the basic design criteria in conformance with Weston’s Engineering Quality Management Plan and as necessary to complete assigned projects.
  • Perform project work within budget and schedule and provide our clients with high quality work efficiently at lowest practical cost.
  • Collaborate with engineers, CAD technicians, field technicians, designers, and other team personnel to complete projects efficiently and accurately.
  • Assist the Project Manager and Project Engineer in estimating and tracking project costs.
  • Support proposal preparation efforts and development of project costs.
  • Participate in professional societies and other similar organizations.
  • Interact with clients regarding project specific tasks.
