Description

Weston is seeking a Health Physicist to be responsible for developing radiological work plans and procedures for waste processing activities.  In addition, the candidate should have experience determining radiation exposure limits, understanding radiological characterization and safe work practices.

Location: Albuquerque, NM (Sandia Labs)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, or related science field from an accredited post-secondary institution
  • Strong communication, verbal and written
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Compatibility with other workers
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance

Desired

  • Demonstrated ability to carry out independent, original scientific work
  • Certified HP a plus
  • Hands-on radioactive waste sorting, segregation and treatment experience
  • Experience with NUREG-1400 modeling
  • Experience in radioactive waste management activities

Responsibilities:

  • Develops radiological work plans and procedures for waste processing activities
  • Performs operational health physics activities for radioactive waste management facility including developing radiation exposure limits for workers, monitoring safe work methods, and evaluating decontamination methods
  • Familiar with radiological characterization methods and interpretation of analytical data
  • Handling sensitive and classified information in a responsible manner
  • Maintains a strong commitment to worker safety and environmental compliance
