This position provides rapid, patient-centered medical and psychiatric care for adults experiencing acute behavioral health crises in a 23-hour stabilization setting. You’ll perform focused medical/psychiatric assessments, clarify risk (harm to self/others), determine medical urgency, guide medical decisions, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to craft brief stabilization plans and safe dispositions when appropriate.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide on-call support and responds promptly to calls from the crisis stabilization center 24/7, 365 days a year, when needing to consult for higher medical needs of a client.
- Although practitioner is on-call 24/7, these calls will not be for emergency purposes and will allow ample amount of time in-between correspondences via phone call or email.
- Perform urgent medical and psychiatric evaluations if needed (telehealth).
- Clarify risk related to harm to self/others; advise on the need for urgent medical evaluation vs. management in the unit; document clinical reasoning clearly.
- Collaborate with EMTs and clinicians to develop diagnostic formulations and short-term stabilization plans; identify appropriate community resources and levels of care.
- Determine medical necessity and appropriateness of mental health services.
- Maintain timely, compliant documentation and communication; uphold HIPAA and relevant privacy rules.
- Provide brief staff consultation/education (e.g., risk stratification, meds, de-escalation support).
- Attend once a month staff meeting.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- One of the following: PA, PMHNP/DNP, or MD/DO (Psychiatry preferred) with active Oregon license.
- DEA registration (or eligibility) for prescribing controlled substances.
- 2–5 years of relevant clinical experience preferred (urgent care, ED, psych emergency, crisis stabilization, inpatient psych, or similar)
ROLE SPECIFIC REQUIRMENTS
Psychiatrists (MD/DO):
- Active Oregon medical license and DEA.
- American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) certification or eligibility required.
Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners (PMHNP / DNP):
- ANCC (American Nurses Credentialing Center) psychiatric-mental health certification and active DEA (or eligibility).
- Meets federal MATE Act requirement: 8 hours SUD-related training for new/renewing DEA registrations (can be fulfilled via approved CME/CNE).
Physician Assistants (PA) – Oregon requirements:
- Active Oregon PA license (Oregon Medical Board).
- Graduation from an ARC-PA/CAAHEP-approved PA program and passage of PANCE (NCCPA).
- Current NCCPA certification (or Limited License, Pending Examination, if applicable).
- Practice under Oregon’s Collaborative Practice model with a collaboration agreement kept on file at the primary practice location.
