Under general administrative direction from the Plant Manager, plans, organizes and directs the operations and environmental activities at the JBS Souderton Beef Facility, JBS Souderton Rendering/Hides & the JBS Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Main Responsibilities:
- Manage the Environmental Department and secondary wastewater treatment
- Review environmental data, operations and testing protocol as required for compliance and conformance including best practices
- Keep accurate records and track necessary data to ensure all documentation is kept up to date and accurate
- Design and verify adequate sampling and testing strategies to reduce loading to secondary and improve wastewater quality
- Make sure all safety rules and requirements are followed
- Communicate effectively with plant leadership and regulators on matters related to permitting, relevant regulations and non-compliance issues.
- Ensure that both sites maintains necessary environmental permits including submitting for renewal in a timely manner to avoid expiration.
- Investigate environmental complaints.
- Provide environmental training for staff and division personnel.
- Ensure that all facilities have adequate and efficient environmental protection systems. Supervise design, construction and startup as may be required. Collaborate with site, business unit and third party engineers on design, budgeting, startup and permitting on projects assigned to them. Stay current on changing regulations and technology.
- Participate in the emergency and chemical release reporting and response program.
- Respond timely to environmental concerns including spills
- Provide daily and routine reports to management
- Manage data tracking and report on utility’s, water, gas and electricity
- Drive sustainability and sustainability projects and lead the utilities team (routine meetings)
- Lead the yield loss reduction team, develop yield loss reduction projects with the site team
- Complete routine audits with a focus on environmental opportunities including but not limited to yield loss and utilities waste
- Drive waste reduction and landfill diversion projects
- Serves as liaison and is accountable to the Pennsylvania State Department of Environmental Protection on Wastewater Treatment Plant performance as required by the NPDES permit.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering or similar field preferred.
- 3 years experience in Environmental and Waste Water Engineering field
• Knowledge of regulatory compliance, wastewater treatment and air permitting programs - Proven management skills.
- Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite Products (Word, Excel, PPT, Outlook).
- Previous experience working with and appropriately handling confidential information.
- Must be able to work nights and weekends when required to troubleshoot system problems. Shall be on call during off hours as directed by Manager.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering or similar field preferred.
