About us:
Waring, a leading manufacturer of high-end commercial appliances globally and a division of Conair Corporation, has an opportunity for a motivated and experienced Design Engineer.
This position will be based in Torrington, CT.

We are looking for a talented design engineer. As a design engineer, you will facilitate the design, prototype, and manufacture of new design concepts, analyze existing product performance and introduce product improvements as they become evident.

Provide engineering support for all phases of the production process including Operations, Manufacturing, Quality Control and Customer Service. Support is to include, but not limited to, the participation in Engineering/Operations meetings, the creation, implementation and release of Engineering Change orders, communication, and presentation of design concepts to pertinent associates.

Design and implement test procedures to assure that products meet quality and performance standards. These standards are Waring specific and are contingent on the acceptable results of test data of previously performed and completed test requests.

 Duties/Responsibilities

  • Candidate will work on commercial Kitchen appliances in various aspects
  • Help support design & development of improvements on new & legacy products
  • Support factory with production issues
  • Coordinate with the product development team (Engineering/Operations) to finalize product improvements
  • Submit Test Requests and oversee setup and running of performance/life testing
  • Help Develop prototypes and mock-ups of product ideas
  • Work with Manufacturing Engineering on solving technical issues
  • Initiate ECO drawing updates, including legacy 2D drawings
  • Help with Engineering & Admin responsibilities moving ECOs from Engineering into Production
  • Participate in the Engineering/Operations meeting
  • Develop, design, and produce prototypes using Waring supplied 3D printers (SLS & FDM)
  • Prepare testing protocols, test reports, and in-depth analysis of products
  • Provide support to other business units by answering technical questions
  • Work closely with external engineering and manufacturing partners (USA)
  • Using computer-aided design (Creo 9.0) software, create and modify 3D components and 2D drawing files.
Skills/Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a similar field.
  • 2-5 years of experience working in mechanical engineering or related field
  • Proficient in Creo CAD software (currently using Creo 9)
  • Experience in designing and developing electrical appliances through all phases from concept engineering to mass production while maintaining schedules and cost goals.
The ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience in at least 5 of the following areas, including experience with Engineering Change Orders:
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work well with teams
  • Ability to effectively communicate concepts and write technical documents
  • Engineering analysis & design skills, including GD&T
  • Design for manufacturing
  • Understanding of regulatory regulations (UL/ETL/FDA/NSF)
  • Injection molding
  • Diecasting
  • Sheet metal design

An understanding or experience with the following is a plus:
  • Plastic and Steel material properties and selection
  • Electro-mechanical experience (especially different types of motors)
  • Thermal transfer and isolation
  • Experience with 3D printing
