The ideal candidate is passionate about technology, has extensive consumer electronics coverage experience, and is a skilled editor with meticulous organizational skills. This role will report to the managing editor of the consumer electronics reviews team.
Responsibilities:
  • Work with writers and managing editors to usher stories through the publishing process and provide meaningful feedback to ensure that reviews and articles adhere to PCMag's rigorous editorial standards. This position comprises roughly 80% editing and 20% coordination.
  • Edit several stories daily, including authoritative reviews, news, roundups, buying guides, how-to pieces, and other product-focused content.
  • Manage recurring monthly assignments and write newsletters.
  • Identify new story opportunities using data and audience analytics.
  • Help coordinate unique coverage around major product launches and embargoes.
  • Work with editors and writers to assess and optimize current testing processes as necessary.
  • Work with freelancers to ensure assignments are turned in on time, provide feedback to freelancers, and ensure queries are answered.
  • Pitch the team’s work for home page, distribution, social media, and video promotion.
  • Participate in daily and weekly editorial meetings.
  • Work with the art, product, social media, and video teams to improve our editorial processes.
Qualifications:
  • At least 3-5 years of editing experience at a major tech publication.
  • Expansive knowledge across various consumer electronics categories, including cameras, drones, headphones, phones, robot vacuums, smartwatches, TVs, and more.
  • Experience with hands-on reviews, comparing products, and offering expert buying advice.
  • Intimate knowledge of grammar and style, and a quick ability to make rough copy shine.
  • Proven headline writing and story packaging chops.
  • You should be able to generate ideas about how to help our audience buy and use technology and make a plan to turn those ideas into impactful stories.
  • A solid familiarity with SEO and knowledge of popular search optimization tools, but you also understand how to package a story to engage and delight your audience.
  • You have a proven track record with project and deadline management, plus demonstrated experience working effectively across teams.
  • You should be comfortable using a CMS, image editing apps and tools, and data visualization programs.
  • You are a team player with a strong work ethic, a quick wit, and a sense of humor.
