About the Role

CNET Media Group’s portfolio of leading digital publishing brands—including CNET, Mashable, PCMag, Lifehacker, ZDNet and others—reaches hundreds of millions of tech consumers globally. We are seeking a VP of Video to lead series development, programming strategies, content production and overall video revenue growth. 
You will have the unique responsibility of shaping and executing creative strategies to maximize our video content’s visibility, engagement and impact onsite and across a variety of platforms, including YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, X, Facebook and LinkedIn, among others. This is a key leadership role requiring vision, innovation and a proven ability to deliver results. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Creative Vision: Develop and execute creative video content that aligns with our leading tech publishing brands’ missions to entertain, educate and engage audiences with best-in-class digital content that is highly-monetizable.  
  • Team Leadership: Manage, mentor and develop a talented video team while fostering collaboration across the organization (e.g.,  Editorial, Audience Development, Sales, etc.). 
  • End-to-End Production Oversight: Direct all video production stages, from concept development and storyboarding to shooting, editing and sound design. 
  • Storytelling Excellence: Ensure that video content is high-quality, engaging and reflective of current trends in order to inform and entertain our brands’ target audiences. 
  • Platform Optimization: Create innovative video content optimized for various platforms, tailoring approaches and editing for each channel to maximize performance. 
  • Video Programming & Analytics: Oversee video programming strategies and analyze performance metrics to meet or exceed key performance indicators (KPIs). Adjust strategies in response to analytics insights. 
  • Strategic Budget Management: Efficiently manage the video production budget, balancing creativity and cost-effectiveness. 
  • Revenue Growth: Work closely between the creative, audience and monetization teams to produce and publish a slate of content that enables new and recurring video revenue streams.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Audience Development, Editorial, PR, Integrated Marketing and Sales teams to align efforts and amplify results.

Qualifications 

  • Experience:
    • 12+ years of experience in video development, production and programming within dynamic, fast-paced environments. 
    • 8+ years in a leadership role, driving team success and creative growth. 
  • Expertise:
    • Mastery of video production processes, including pre-production planning, shooting, and post-production editing. 
    • Expertise in video programming strategies, video analytics and platform-specific performance optimization. 
    • Strong knowledge of off-platform syndication across YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, X, Facebook and LinkedIn. 
    • Proven success building video slates that enable sales to win revenue through series sponsorships and paid integrations.
  • Skills:
    • Exceptional storytelling instincts with a focus on diverse audiences. 
    • Strategic thinking and ability to spot opportunities for new video formats and series. 
    • Excellent communication, presentation and collaboration skills. 
    • Ability to manage teams and conduct performance assessments effectively. 
  • Cultural Aptitude:
    • Stay up-to-date with the latest trends in video production and digital storytelling. 
    • Ability to weigh trade-offs and exercise sound judgment in leadership decisions.

Salary Disclosure: Ziff Davis provides a range for the base pay. Factors that may be used to determine your actual pay may include your specific job related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographic location. The base pay for this position ranges from $175,000 to $235,000, plus incentive compensation (for eligible roles only), 401K with company match, medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, short and long-term disability, and a flexible time off policy.
